Hi all.
I got a question for you. Has anyone ever used Coupe doors on a Vert?
I know the top of the door frame would have to be cut off but i\'m intrested if anyone has done this job?
I am starting to rebuild my vert and am going to replace anything that has rust on it so the doors are going. I have two Coupe doors and they are perfect, so it would be cool if it could be done. I don\'t realy want to cut up a new door to find it wont fit.
Chris
hey i might need to have one of the doors off if they are perfect i need the passenger side one. let us know if you want to sell it, what colour are they? it might work, but your going to have to do a bit of faffing around changing the glass over.
the vert might have a stronger door (internally).
Hi Chris
Was thinking of this a while ago, mainly to get a nice one piece glass instead of the quater light. I reckon its going to be a case of trial and error. Maybe get a scrapper of a door from a coupe, put it on and cut it up. I think the only problem you might have is getting a nice seal at the roof point, so its water tight. Plus you would have to have the glass cut down, although this is something i was told so cannot confirm.
Keep me posted buddy.
Ok, I had a look this morning and i don\'t think i can do it. I havn\'t given up though i\'m going to take the coupe door into work and let one of the guys have a play with it.
i have noticed though the window on the coupe doesn\'t raise high enough to seal against the vert roof.
But if i decide to cut up these dorrs i will leave the Coupe glass in and fit it just to see how much of a problem it would be to fit.
wont the glass exchange between doors? might be worth getting the old cloth tape out?
MMM bit of an Update, I have striped both the Vert and Coupe doors today, the Coupe mech would go in the Vert door, the problem i found is there is no ajustment to bring the Top of the window in to meet the Rubber and it would take a lot of messing and measuring to get the Regulator and window chanels in the correct places.
This is my game plan, I am going to cut the Frame of the Coupe door so i have all the Regulator holes and Channel holes in the correct places, i am also going to fill the A post of the door with expanding foam just to give it a little more strenth.
I have to also figure out how i stop the window from moving about when its 1/2" from the top as it goes very loose and i think if the car was moving it would proberly brake the window?
Does anyone have any idea\'s how i can check the Rake on the screens? I\'ve put up a thread on the US site and there convinced its not possable. They are saying the glass has a diffrent Contour and the Sreen is more raked so.
So i would not be able to use a Coupe door (becouse of the rake) and i can\'t use the Coupe window becosue its the wrong shape at the top?
I posted on one of the US Forums about this Chris and got pretty much the same response and i gotta be honest, by the sounds of things, if it could be done relatively easily, i reckon it would have been done over there or in Japan first.
To add a positive note though, if glass is the main concern, there are places that custom make glass to fit appications, curve,s etc, not sure how much it would be though.
Cheers
The way i see it, If you could make it secure when its 90% up and the correct shape to mate up with the top rubber it could work.
are the doors the same size if you chop the top bit off and then replace with the glass and mech from the vert. if your cutting the top off it wont be that hard to take the glass out lol!
how did you get on then chris? any luck?
Well i think the US Guys may be right, I offered the coupe glass up to my Vert door (without the windows in) and its defo the wrong shape.
So thats the primary problem. The secondary one is that there is very little window suported by the Regulator at the base so it nearly runns of the window chanels when its up. There is very little strenth when the window is nearly at the top.
BUGGER!!!!!
I hav\'nt given up though, I\'ve aquired a Astra Coupe Window today (perks of working in a Body Shop) that is way too bit but seems to have roughly the right curve on it. If i can think of a way to cut it without braking it i\'ll have a go at moding that too fit. It does have one good point the bottom of the window is more designed for Frameless doors.
To be Continued........
breaking a rx7 vert (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mazda-RX7-Turbo-II-Dashboard-Surround-RX-7-1991_W0QQitemZ4568725629QQcategoryZ52640QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
i was digging around ebay found this! (no not the daswh mate if you read the rest it says he has both doors too)
Yeh i\'ve seen it a while ago, He is quite along way from me and with not being able to see them was a bit put off (have to be 100% rust free but dents aint a problem)
