Title: Clutch Problems
Post by: Jame5 on August 19, 2005, 05:15:00 PM
Approaching a roundabout, tried to engage 2nd gear. Push the clutch in, couldn\'t get it into gear. So I turned the engine off, engaged 1st gear, drove home using clutchless gear changes. Managed to make a few notchy gear changes. Got the car on the drive. Can\'t engage any gear even when pumping the clutch lots. When the engine is running and I push the clutch it I get a grinding sound from the clutch. Is this a clutch problem or sounds like air in the system?

sounds like your clutch has gone walkabout mate! I hope I\'m wrong and it is an easy fix, but those are the symptoms I had with an old 205 I had when the clutch died.

its gonna be clutch pack, release bearing or common fault-clutch fork broken. Have you still got a good pedal feel????????

As Gary says, its probably a broken fork, whatever its internal so unfortunatly your going to need to pull the box out  :(

The clutch feels pretty soft when u start to push the pedal down. When you get nearer the floor it gets pretty heavy. I was just about to book it in for PFC too so I doubt i\'ll be doing that now until the clutch has been run in.

If it is a 2nd or 3rd Gen then you can increase pedal freeplay under the pedal on adjustable rod that goes into the master cylinder.

unfortunately you only really use this to set up the clutch on installation.

Once these clutches slip that\'s your lot, sorry.

BTW To give you an idea of cost we sell standard 3 piece 3rd Gen clutches for £300 +vat

Hi James
Same simptons was I had, turned out to be Slave cylinder had not been put on properly, Geff had only put one bolt loosely in the slave, so that by the time I had drive home from him, the slave was moving instead of pushing the clutch, so hopefuylly a simple fix of tightrning or put bolts in, the only other time something similar to this happened, the folk that operates the clutch had snapped. Id put money on one of them 2.

The clutch arm was knackered in the end but the clutch looks pretty worn so I\'m replacing the lot. I\'ve got no intentions of going for single turbo or high power so I\'ve decided to go for a stock kit. Mazda wanted £356 inc VAT for a clutch kit including the release baring. I ordered one from Rotary Art for £290 inc. The clutch fork is coming from mazda though for 55 + VAT. Nevermind

Hope so mate. I\'ve ordered the power FC from Japan so that\'ll be turning up the next few weeks. Fancy mapping it for me?!?  :3gears-lh  :yes

What is the engine looking like at the moment? I wouldn\'t mind coming down to have a look at the thing in bits.
