Quick question,
i know a lot of people have said that there is no model report for later model RX7\'s so you can\'t import them, so how come there are one or two Spirit-R\'s in the country?
Were they smuggled in through the rocky coves of the cornish coastline on a moonless night by chain-smoking, beanie-wearing, rough and ready fishermen?
Or are they UK spec models that were officially sold in this country?
I\'d like to believe the former but i have a hunch it isn\'t true.
Anyone?
Hi mate,
I think the reason there are some Spirit-R\'s in the country already is because they were imported before the rules changed i.e. before this model report malarky.
I\'d dearly love to get my hands on a Spirit-R, but unless there\'s one for sale in this country, forget about it :( There\'s lots of rumours about that such and such has a model report etc. but no firm proof that they can be imported.
Cheers
Jon
aah right, so the rules changed in the last couple of years? makes sense I suppose.
Does that mean i will never be able to import the latest and last edition of the Nissan Skyline R34 Gtr? it is 80000 squid or so and comes out of the factory with 600bhp. N-tune, or Z-tune or something. Damn and i was gonna buy it next year.... ;)
Yes you could, but only if you were prepared to do a model report for it (which will cost moocho time and money) then get it SVA\'d, and theres no way in hell that special edition Skyline will pass the emissions straight off. :)
It would probably be easier to find a loop-hole in the system and exploit it. A friend of mine was looking into the idea of exporting used cars from the UK to Australia. The same problems applied, you need model report (I think), but there was some clause whereby if you emigrated to Aus you could take your car with you... I think that was the loop-hole anyway.
so maybe you should move to Japan, buy the Skyline, and then move back to the UK? Providing that\'s a valid loop-hole.
Cheers
Jon
I think i heard or read somewhere that there is only 3 Spirit R\'s in the country, so the chances of finding 1 up for sale are slim to none!!

I\'d love a Sprint :( - Bastard government changing unimportant laws!
I had a Spirit for sale for almost a year, but no-one was interested. I sold it to a guy on here eventually. Gorgeous car too.
Mark.
Yep, and I still have it to!
I did read somewhere, that someone bought a car (might have been a Skyline?) but because of the changes to the import rules, couldn\'t import it. He therefore had it stripped down completely, shipped over here is boxes, and reassemebled it. It was then classed as a self build, or kit car, got it SVA\'ed and on the road! Could all be a load of rubbish, of course!
im sure if you waived some money about you could buy one of the ones kicking around on here
Scott
I would love one too! :)
Aparrently is there are standard ones in the UK they can be offered to be used for the model report. This will cost the owner nothing and will give them free access to the model report. To everyone else they have to pay x amount for access to it (cant remember how much)

Ok heres a loop hole that would involve having mates in Guernsey.
Import your car to Guernsey, weigh it and register it. Thats it. Any car that is registered in Guernsey is allowed to spend upto 6 months of the year driving around the UK. No MOT or SVA etc to be done.
Word to the wise like.
I like the idea of dis-mantling a spirit-R and sending it over in boxes. Would be fun putting it back together... like a 20,000 piece jigsaw, but more rewarding when you\'re done. ;)

as long as you dont end up with the last piece missing :)
:rollin :rollin :rollin
You know it would happen too!
LOL i can see it now, I\'d have five pedals in the footwell, the handbrake in the boot, and no headlights!
I don\'t think assembling a car is within my capabilities, anyway its all academic as i can\'t afford either a Spirit or an £80,000 skyline! still, here\'s hoping.

LOL :p No i dont have any cars hidden away one is enough for me. I know if the cash was pleaced in my hand i would be getting a taxi ride home ;)

Not that I could afford a new car, but... I thought I\'d enquire a bit further into getting a model report for a late RX7. Below is the response from //www.modelreports.com.
I am afraid that we do not have the Model Report you require to rent out, also unfortunately we will not be doing it in the future. You can ring VOSA (01792 458888) they can supply more information on companies who also sell Model Reports, we may be the largest company, but we are not the only ones who sell model reports.
If no luck at VOSA apply to Millbrook (01525 408253) for a one off noise and emission, if it passes though tests then yes it can go ahead and get ESVAed, then if all goes well it can be registered and you will be able to drive it in the UK.
There must be a easy loop-hole in the system somewhere. :reallymad

:p buying a taxi? There is a black cab graveyard near us, if you want one!! :D :D
Couldnt you just get a really quiet hybrid zorst made by one of the various companies around the uk, somthing with a huge cat that gives almost no emmisions and makes almost no noise. Then just put ur own back on once passed? . I\'m sure it will work. If not im going to work esva and u ill pass evrything :D . Best way to pimp the system really :spank
There will be a model report soon (I hope)
We have been working on it for nearly 1 year now & are nearly there.
We have passed on CO, & HC However NOx is still a little high.
I will keep the forum informed of progress
RX-HEAVEN Ltd 01403 734666
From memory on one of your posts earlier in the year, you were using a 98 car? You were unsure if the model report on that year could be used for cars newer than the one you were working on.
Is this still the case, or do you now think the model report (if/when it gets approved) can be used for post 99spec FDs?
Once we get the report for FD3S 4***** it will then be easy to get the report for the later cars.
There has been far too much effort put into this for the project to fail!!!!!
