Title: Safety boost
Post by: BlitzBoy on August 09, 2003, 07:52:53 PM
Guys does the 3rd gen have a safefty boost setting in the standard ECU?, coz the hot weather today going down the Pod it felt boost was restricted when the 2nd turbo came online it felt more like 4psi then 10 psi!

Yes it does,

I can\'t remember  what it\'s restricted to, but it cuts boost when very hot. Also part of the reason would be heat soak of your engine bay which makes the car feel more sluggish in these temps. It\'s the norm in a fd.

Cheers Brian

just took it for a blast and evrything feels normal now,
shame it didnt run like that at Santa Pod :( I raced another FD he clocked at 13.4, although I done him on the launch and 60ft I hit 2.151 and he hit 2.2 , he come whistling by me at 5000 rpm in second. He was running a Power FC ECU and 14psi, so does an aftermarket ECU negate the safety boost feature?

In good temp when my car is not heatsoaked I hit .9 bar of boost when a little hotter I hit approx .85, when heatsoaked I hit approx .77 and I run a power fc so whether that is the same safety feature in the power fc or just heatsoak i\'m not sure. I think 14 psi is about .95 bar of boost so you wouldn\'t really stand a chance running stock ecu in baking hot temps with engine heatsoaked.

If you have Datalogit for the Power FC you can \'override\' at least some of the correction safety settings.

Ant used to do this at pod. *I think* heatsoak would mean the air temp correction maps would want to pull back a couple of degrees of ignition and add fuel but on the basis that he knew it was just heat soak of the plenum rather than actual inlet temps and he was happy that the Apexi FMIC would  provide a nice chilly charge he would push the maps back up. I think you can change most things with Datalogit....

Cheers for the Info
Im going to buy a Microtech ECU shortly which is fully mappable, but it requires the turbos to be ran Non Sequentially, is there are info I can find which shows you how to configure the turbos non sequentially?
