Hey,
I placed a post a while ago about the boost problems I was having. The first turbo was fine, boosting at about 0.8 bar but the second was consistantly boosting at about 0.65 bar.
Well I said I\'d do the dreaded vacuum hose job. And I did at the weekend. Took me two solid days to complete it, Is that slow?
Any way the problem that I was having didn\'t go away. I took it for a quick test on Sunday night, and the car was behaving exactly the same 0.8 bar on the first and 0.65 bar on the second turbo (Oh, and the boost drops to "0" between the turbos, as before).
I drove the car today (first time since sunday) and now its worse!!! :(
It boosts to 0.7 on the first and 0.5 on the second now.
I hope that someone can give me an idea where to look next.
As far as I know the car is completely standard apart from a cat back exhaust and an aftermarket dump valve.
I checked the solenoids under the inlet manifold with 12V each one clicked and the vacuum chamber (infront of the manifold) holds pressure.
And I remembered the boost pills. Thats all I can think of at the moment. Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers
these cars are so fiddly(esp the twins) i wld save the hassle and get to one of the pros..i know its nice to think(i fixed that well done me)but for me it isnt worth the hassle when nothing seems to work that i try

I would be lying if I said I knew what I was talking about  but it
could still be a pipe as it seems to be getting progressively worse?
Like Mr Veilside said take it to the specialist - I did, expecting it to be a split pipe somewhere I couldn\'t see and its apparently my pre-cat (which I
still hope to get done soon! :rollin )
Testing the solenoids for just a click is not enough. i did this and they all passed. When I tried this test http://rx7.voodoobox.net/howto/solenoid_check/solenoid_check.html
3 failed at 10psi/0.7bar and one failed at 12psi (I plan to run 15psi)
Also, temperature may play a part in the problem. I warmed them up in the oven before testing to make sure.
Also check the one way valves.
Apart from solenoids, check valves, correct vac line connections and actuators/actuator rods that\'s all I can think of to check. (If we are talking turbo control system)
If you are sure you don\'t have a boost leak then you will be able to find it. If you can do the hose job just keep at it mate.
If you have not already looked, this might help:

Good luck
Oh, if you are serious about staying sequential like me :) the mityvac vac/pressure pump is essential.
Don\'t forget to check the vac and pressure tanks for leaks.
Thanks for that guys.
There is plenty there to keep me going! I will re-check the solenoids, check valves and actuators. And go from there.
I did want to disconnect the air pump from the cat. As when I got the car this was disconnected. I saw the pipes were missing and replaced them. My problems started happening a little while after this. (I only thought about that yesterday!) Could the o2 sensor in the exhaust be telling the computer that its running Lean and reducing boost?
Hey Feelio
I see your in cambs, whereabouts exactly, I\'m in Yaxley, I could pop over sometime and lend a hand if required.
Andy R
Hey I\'m not exactly sure where Yaxley is. But peterborough is only about 1/2 hours drive from me. Depending how you drive ;)
I\'m near Ely if you know where that is. About 7 miles Peterborough side.
Yaxley is just off the A1 (south from Peterborough)
Yep I know Ely, I work in Wisbech so not many miles away.
email me : andrew@rcf-eng.com if you need a hand with anything.
Cheers Andy,
I\'m at work at the mo. Drop you mail when I get in this evening.
The car is just so complicated, I\'m sure I could use a hand!
Hi guy\'s i\'m north of you pair in Melton Mowbray but I work in Peterborough, Orton Southgate. I\'m having boost issues on my FD3 also, it\'s boosting 5-3-4 so not good, power is down to 173BHP :(
A friend and I were thinking of doing the hose job but it looks way too complicated for me. I already have the silicon hoses but just don\'t dare tackle it. If you are looking at it of a weekend I\'d be real interested to have a look at what it all involves as I\'m proper skint at the minute and can\'t afford to go down the professionals route.
cheers
G
I know the feeling of skintness!!!
The vac job is a pain in the A*S for sure. But if you already have the hoses and a gasket for the inlet manifold, all it is is time. As I said. It took me 2 solid days to do it.
If your not sure what your doing I followed these instructions //www.face2faces.co.uk/howto/ratsnest1.htm (I got the link off another thread on here somewhere)
Gareth, if you wana send me a private message, I\'ll give you e mail address. Didn\'t really wana post it on here!!
Hi,
the link didn\'t work have you another link I\'ve been looking at other sites and they all make it look a right bitch of a job.
cheers
G
Yeah your right, that doesn\'t work!!! :)
I don\'t know why.. give me a little while a I\'ll post a link to the thread I originally found it in!
If you look for my previous post "boost problems" This link is on there.......
