Title: common oil leaks?
Post by: Trevrx on August 15, 2005, 03:51:35 PM
Hi all,

Does anyone know the common places for engine oil leaks on a FD?

It had a re-build 6K ago by RX motors so I\'m assuming the rear engine oil seal is good.  I\'ve replaced the two rubber \'O\' rings in the oil filter housing.

Still have a slight leak, must be nothing more than a tiny drip but after a high speed run it smokes slightly from oil burning on the exhaust.  Seems to be around the passenger side near the bulkhead mainly.

Would replacing the re-breathe valve (pcv valve?) do any good?

Thanks.

Are you sure the breather has been put back on during the rebuild? If it has popped off then you might get some oil making its way back there, but its quite unlikely.
Theres the possibility its escaping from the bellhousing and onto the exhaust, but then you have to find out whats leaking into the bell housing in the first place.

Do you have any oil showing on your plug leads. If so it may be the seal has gone at the base of the oil filler neck unit. It\'s just that I was getting an oil leak in that area some months ago and Geff told me to strip it down and re-seal it. It worked. I was only getting it under WOT. Worth a look see. HTH. :wiggle

Thanks for the replys guys.

I\'ve attached a coulple pics where I can see oil around a connection.
It\'s about a 1/2" rubber pipe jubilee clipped onto a 4" long hard plastic tube under the intake, with another pipe coming off the other end. The join where I\'ve pencilled yellow is always wet with oil.
Does anyone know what the 4"long plastic thing is and where the pipes either end go?

Srry bout terrible description,  any help appreciated.
