Well had my car for a week now and driven it twice lol, well its in the garage having the alarm fitted and just being sorted out so i can register it :)
Anyway couple of questions about FD\'s. I have noticed when the car ticks over it smells very rich, only noticed since its been in the garage, would this be down to the battery being flat and the ecu been reset or is this a general thing FD\'s do. Mods wise it has a Blitz nur CAT back and apexi filters if that helps.
In 1st gear do you always see full boost or is it limited? as it never seems that it hits full boost, other gears it always hits 0.7 bar most of the time, some times its hesitant i am going to replace all the vacume hoses (god help me) hoping this will sort the issue.
Also last question what should they tick over at? mine sits at around 800rpm which seems normal, can they idle less than this though?
Cheers
Gav
Fd\'s in general run rich and tend to smell of petrol. As to the boost issue, you need to have the engine up to working temp before trying full boost, you will tend to find it a bit hesitant if you are trying to nail it before it is well warmed up. Tick over sounds about right.
Best advice is before you go out ragging it, do a full service [oil, plugs, filters ect.] check all fluid levels [engine, g/box, back axle] Flush out coolant system and replace with correct antifreeze. Have a good look at the tyres Jap rubber is not very good on our wet English roads and many can attest to bad moments, if in doubt invest in new.
Hope this helps
Cheers for the reply mate.
I always make sure its warmed right up, lucky for me this car came with a water temp gauge so it gave me an idea when things are getting to the right temps, but i always allow around tens mins to warm up.
Its just about to have a oil change, i have brand new plugs and leads along with a new AST I will change the plugs and leads this up coming weekend and then sort the coolant and fit the new AST hopefully that should sort the problem out.
Oh i fitted new tyres as soon as it arrived, the others had perished big time. I just want to get it home so i can have a good look over and starting tinkering with it.

Seems you are doin all the right things then :)
Take your time and get used to it, if you do have boost issues once you have done all the bits, it might be more cost effective [and less time consuming] to get a rotory guy to give it the once over. The hose job is doable [DIY wise] but might not be required.
Hello mate,
Regarding your water temp gauge, after thats got to temp always give it a few mins longer as the oil takes a lot longer to heat up than the water....you say you give it 10 mins though which is fine.
Enjoy your new toy :) Got any pics?
cheers
Andy
Cheers guys, once i have had it for awhile i will take it to a rotary chap who ever i decide to visit as there are a few of them out there and see where i want to take the car.
By the way here is a pic (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/Gefunk/DSCF0168.jpg)

Looking good mate, what make is the bonnet? Spoiler looks pretty tasty too
looks like you got a good one there, you have exactley the same mods as me, and all the things you thought may be a problem sound perfectly normal to me to. Don\'t do what I did though, and forget to put the waterfiller cap back on, £5,000 is a lot of money for a rebuild.
Well the body work is a mix and match job, done some research with the help of people on here as well
Body;
C-west rear bumper and side skirts,
East bear bumper
Boreder bonnet
Ganador mirrors
Mazda speed rear GT wing
Gewalt Evolution rims
Suspension,
Runs on some very tasty Spec R MAzda speed coil overs.
Engine standard bar the filters and exhaust.
I was looking for a car where i did have to spend anything on the body and put all my efforts into the engine, at first when i saw the pics i didnt really like it, got some more pics and thought it was pretty cool. But then when it came over and saw it in the flesh its amazing, all honesty pics dont do it justice.
Well at least it looks like im doing the right things with it. At the moment i cant afford to leave the rad cap off lol

Did the tyres look as if they had been used for drifting at all. The reason I ask is that when I got my FD the rear was set to step out on every corner, not very good in our rain. If the back end feels as if it\'s wanting to let go then get four wheel alinement done. Just a tip. :cool
Bald as a badger they were lol, well if thats the case then i will leave it like that i like tail out action haha. No this thing was setup for grip by the feel of things.
