Title: Intercooler question
Post by: dturpin on August 07, 2005, 12:51:59 PM
I am currently trying to fit a Greddy FMIC to my 92 FD, I brought it second hand so no fitting instructions.
The inetrcooler has a different sized inlet and outlet, and basically I want to know which way around it should go.  Should the larger side go to the turbo\'s or to the intake?

With the pipes going towards the engine, the pipe on the drivers side is the inlet and the pipe nearest the battery goes to the throttle body.

Larger side is the inlet and the smaller the outlet I\'d guess, due to the fact that an intercooler cools the air, increasing the density.

I have just got the IC mounted in the right place I think, and the larger diameter hole is on battery side, so I would assume this is the outlet?  I will try to get some pics up soon.
If anyone has fitted a Greddy FMIC, or has one fitted and noticed the different sized holes if they could see which way round theres is I would appreciate it.

The idea of smaller in the inlet of the I/C is to cut down on turbo lag.

How would this work?

I would say that the reason for this might be.

The fmic you have is designed for the use with a twin turbo car. The fmic with 70mm outlets either end may well be designed for a single turbo car with a turbo charger that requires a larger dia ic inlet
