Does anyone know if these are good upgrade on standard turbo (92-97)?? I have seen many us FD change to them and getting some good results.
Will the engine need to come out to change the turbo pack? Because if it does then is not really worth changing? How hard will it be and how many labour hours are we talking if I take it to a tuner?
Any helps are appreciated.. :wave
depends really how much you gotta pay for em !
Scott
I might be able to get some for under £300 .
Let me know if you can get 2 sets for under £300 ;)
heres (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9662&highlight=spec+turbos) a link talking about 99 spec, hope it helps, quite a few come up when I done a search so worth looking around on the forum
the engine doesnt hav to cum out buts its a long job to do,
300quid is cheep,
I will see if I can get another one.
Long jobs as in how long?? LAbour hours?
I thought it will be jus bolt on..
At 300 quid, I would think there might be something wrong with them. Thats a little too cheap.

I think they are pretty much bolt on just getting to them in the first place is where some of the labour hours go.
Dont bother checking for another one for me, was only asking semi-seriously, is a great price but no spare £ at the min :)
Mazda\'s book time for doing this chage is about 10 hours, but I\'ve known it done in less.

It will take you 12 hours to get them out if you do it yourself and its your first time (well thats what it took me)
A garage I would guess can remove them in 6-8 hours. Reassembly is just as bigger pain in the butt!
Mine are off at the minute and the late spec turbos is something I am considering :)

Just read that thread and if the part numbers are the same then I\'m not bothering! :cheers
It took me several days to get the turbo-pack out, and several days to get them back in. However, I am no mechanic or expert, and the job I did removing the turbo\'s was the first serious mechanical work I\'ve ever done. So I wouldn\'t be too put of by my "several days" quote.
On another note, £300?!... mate, they\'re either stolen, used \'n\' abused or simply not real. When I was looking to replace my knackered turbo\'s I looked quite extensively for a new set of twins, in particular the 99 spec model and the absolute best I could find was around £1600 from somewhere in the states - and that wasn\'t including potential VAT and import tax. In the end I opted for a set of refurbished twin\'s for £1300.
Are these 99 spec turbo\'s you\'re going to buy on eBay by any chance? I spotted a brand new set of 99 spec tiwns on eBay several months ago going very cheaply - further investigation revealed it was a scam.
Pictures here if it\'s any help; http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12633

^ wow £1600!
You could get a very very large aftermarket turbo for less than that! Shame as the 99ers do/did sound fun!

10 hours, wow!, do you know what the mazda book time is for changing the LIM gasket?, as the turbos have to come off before you can even think about removing the lower intake manifold (LIM)
Ta,
Paul:)
It was jus a friend who found one from breakyards in Japan. I think it was sold for 400 in the end. Still cheap though, the pic show that the turbo is quite new. Apparently on a 2002 car and done only 10000miles.
US sell them for a lot of money because they have high demand over there..
