Hello all
Just inquiring about the engine check lamp. Does it turn on when you turn your car on and then go off as i cant see mine. What banks of lights is it on the left or the right? I have been trying to see if it has any error codes but i dont know where the light is
Cheers Jamie

I\'ve had an intermittent problem for months, which has finally resulted in the ECU being in permanent limp home mode. There has never been any indication on the dash of any problem at all, even when it was stuck in limp home.
I got a fault code out of the diagnostic plug using an LED and a resistor. I think from memory, I grounded the TEN pin, and put the LED with its anode toward the MEN (I think!!) terminal, and 1K resistor to GND. The LED flashed out the fault code, with on = 0, off =1. A period of 4 seconds occurs between codes, long 1\'s (offs) are the tens, and short 1\'s are units. I got two long and seven short - code 27 which is oil metering pump failure. So guess what I have been doing this weekend! Still not got it all back together due to a few "alterations" on the way.
According to the manual, some codes are stored, and some are lost when you switch off the ignition. 27 seems pretty persistant!

How do you know if it is in limp home mode? Does it restrict the revs or something? Where is the engine check lamp meant to be situated?
Cheers jamie
There is no engine check lamp. If you have an apexi it uses the cat heat light but on the stock ecu there is no light
oh right i was just on the Rx7 lighting of the worldweb site and they said that you can put a jumper wire between TEN and GND in the dianostics socket and the engine check lamp will give you the error codes.

Oh and can someone tell me if my car has been chipped went to the ecu and it has a KS MOD sticker on it?
If its anything like the FC, the ECU does have the ability to put out a signal, but it goes unused. If you can get an I/O list for the ECU with pin identities then you can make your own indicator lamp :)
I have the list of codes just need something to blink at me and tell me what they are.
Yep, same as the FC. There was a pin all ready for use, but nothing to plug into it, all you need to do (For an FC not an FD I should add) is find a switched 12V (on with ignition) for your chosen lamp (make sure its current/voltage range is safe to be used with the ECU) and then the ECU grounds it to create the flash. On igntion, but before starting the lamp comes on and stays on, after engine start it goes off. When there is an error code it will stay lit. To read it, put car in ignition and earth the test connector. (RHS front on FC engine bay, next to battery and leading coils)

You would know if it is in limp home mode - the engine will cut on anything more than a touch of throttle.
I used the LED because it is a very low current device and so should not harm the ECU. As Brett suggested you should really use the +12v as a current source. If you take the anode of an LED to +12v via a 1K and the other side to MEN, you should get flashes correctly instead of the negative logic that I used. For me a flash was actually LED off!
