Title: Ball joint removal on front suspension
Post by: FD3Typer2 on July 30, 2005, 07:38:13 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I am in the process of doing some work on my car engine and suspension wise. I am replacing all the bushes front and rear. I have disassembled the rear completely without any drama, but on the front I am having a problem removing the lower arm ball joint on one side, and upper + lower arm ball joints on the other. Mazda service manual says use an SST. I bought a ball joint separator from Machine mart and that broke while tightening down ( I left the nut on the bolt to protect the thread.)

Is there a trick or other tool I should use? I have seen those forks but am worried that they will destroy the boot.

Any help from you guys is appreciated, I really want to get those arms off so I can change the bushes and polish up the arms!

Thanks

Trevor

the forks r a good little tool.some times thay do rip the rubber seal.
the forks hav a grove cut out of them on 1 side so\'s not to brake the seal.

i heat them up and thay pop straight out with a tap from a hammer,

spray tham with wd40 the day b4 u want to take tham off.works good
