Post by: savanaman on July 29, 2005, 10:24:09 PM
Hello All
Does anyone know or know if its possible to turn down the idle on a 12a.

I assume it\'s a change on the carb?

Mine is auto choke.

Thanks

ok quote from haynes manual:

warm up engine and run for 3 mins at 2000rpm

idle speed should be 750 rpm if not air screw needs ajusting, (located at base of carb on left side and its above the mixture screw. air screw is slightly larger.)

the mixture screw should have a cover over it.

make small ajustmants.

good luck!

Ollie.

This is my first, well second rx7. First one was mothers back in in 1983 in US,
It had the 13b and was an auto. My memories of it as that is was super quiet and smooth to drive with exellent performance.

Now I\'ve got a 1982 Savana with a 12a though 6 port.

Impressions .. loud not that smooth and performance is well dated but it didn\'t buy it for that!  I think with a little tweaking and service she should be OK,
The boday ia absoulety A1 and the engine is good no leaks no problems starting  and it will sit nicely at 70 mph.

Bloody thing beeps at m constantly when over 60!

Tell you what though it is a beautiful car.

I have been reading about people ading a turbo or injection adding. Since i would have to get someone to do it anyone think its worth while?  Can the 12a handle it?

Seen Haynes manuals for that era pop up every now and again on Ebay.  Air screw on mine is exactly where Ollie said.  Mines a 1983, 12a.

Hmm   Are they both screws as in "need a flat screw driver to adjust" or is one more more like you could moce it with your fingers?
Whe were talking ledt side that would be if you were in the car looking forward?

Thanks
