Title: boost problems
Post by: feelio on July 28, 2005, 11:25:13 PM
Hey peeps,
I\'ve had my 93 RX7 for about 6 months. Just the other week the secondry turbo started playing up. At about 4000 rpm the boost drops to 0.5 bar and slowly rises to about 0.65 ish. So its not far off. Before this happened it stayed at about 0.8 pretty much through out the range. I\'ve checked all the vacuum hoses that I can find but didn\'t find anything that looked out of place.
A few days before this, I noticed some split hoses coming off the things (what look like solenoids) located on the front of the inlet manifold and replaced them. But then I didn\'t drive the car much before I noticed this problem after I replaced the split hoses.
Any ideas as to the cause of this would be appreciated
Cheers

Sounds like you might have disturbed something else whilst replacing those split hoses. Might be worth lifting off the UIM and replacing all of the vacuum hoses first as last. Not an easy job by any means but well woth doing if you\'re planning on keeping the sequntial twins. Someone was documenting their vacuum hose job on here recenly, lots of photos.

Thanks for that Millspeed. I\'ll check out the link.
As I said, I checked all the hoses and all seems to be fine, but will look into the vacuum hose job and get it done when I have a spare day!!!!
I have a feeling it could be the ECU restricting boost for some reason. I just had an MOT done on the car ( It passed) and it showed the Lambda readings were a bit high, meaning the car is running a bit lean??? Do you think this could have something to do with it???

What sort of A/F ratio were you seeing? Was that from putting a sniffer up the exhaust? If so, has your car still got the cat fitted? Also, are you running a stock ECU? The stock set up tends to run pig-rich.

I may be wrong, but I\'m sure the ECU only monitors signals from the lambda probe at tickover.

Not sure on the air fuel mixture, I didn\'t see that from the emissions test. Yeah it was done with the thing up the exhaust. The cat is still fitted with the air pump connected (it was disconnected when I first got the car) Although the exhaust is after market with a huge tail pipe. As far as I know the ECU is stock, I\'ve not looked that closely though!!
I think I\'ll go with doing the vacuum hose job when I get a min, and see what happens.
Thanks for this again.
I\'ll post again when I\'ve done to let you know the result :-)
cheers
