i just purchased a fd3 and its gone in my mates garage for a full rebuild im getting a large street bore build with an american rebuild kit teflon coated seals, a t66 turbo with manifold and wategate custom made radtech frontmount with wrc cores with a custom made rad connected to the fmic the intercooller has been tested for up to 60psi with out cracking, fuel pump. fuel regulator. 6 injectors. water injection, airfilter, custon exuast, apexi boost controler. apexi pfc. paddle clutch, coilovers . can anyone tell me what sort of power can be achieved from this spec of build???????????

Are you sure you\'ve got a rotary?
yes mate all rotary hear
Who is doing the build, has he any rotary experience? Has he any idea how to map and tune it? all those thing will eventualy lead you to how much power, rotaries are not like boingers, if you do not know what you are doing it is likely to end in tears.
my mates a prefesional engine builder hes been in the industry for 14 years and his mate does live road maps none of that rolling road stuff his worked on many rx7s none have gone wrong and they all sound beefy he also instals management systems just opened his own garage in his own name he use to work for a company called north london motorsport but he left cause theres to many overheads an they jus get greedy wiv money and then you go bust. he just done a 550 bhp turbo conversion on a honda civic coupe all him self. On his ex Mr2 he had it running 500 bhp running cossie management costome making half greddy half cossie items thats knowledge i think so anyway
BUT DOES HE HAVE ANY ROTARY ENGINE BUILDING EXPERIENCE, if not well it could all end in tears, mapping on the road is fine if want to risk your license, 3rd and 4th gear pulls in these things and you are looking into 3 figures, nice to know the guy has built some 500+ cars though :rollin
bottom line is he has as much experience as the boys at dragon performance, re works etc he jus dont charge stupid prices like every1else, they all work for over heads, he dnt so he dont have to rip you of like these major companys do you dont have to get a degree at mazdas 2 build these engines its about motivation an skill and i get 1 year warranty and 3 services in the year
Quote from: francovel3his worked on many rx7s none have gone wrong
Doesn\'t sound like an RX7 to me. I thought with these things it was only a matter of time till something went pop. :rollin
this is all rx7 mate you no it is things only go wrong with bridge port (overboring) my cars for the road
Quote from: francovel3he dnt so he dont have to rip you of like these major companys do you dont have to get a degree at mazdas 2 build these engines its about motivation an skill and i get 1 year warranty and 3 services in the year
You make a fair point there. I agree that it\'s not impossible to rebuild these things yourself with enough motivation, research and attention to detail (chuck in a bit of skill for good measure).
However I\'d be wary of throwing stones in glass houses. I\'m guessing your friend\'s overheads may be slightly less than many of these \'major companies\'? It\'s a small market and I\'m sure if any of the 6 or so specialist rotary garages in the UK were ripping anybody off, we\'d be the first to find out.
like i say every mechanic is a ripoff other wise they would not have a big buisness but he dont work for no 1 there for no overheads to give the profit to only him self and he is a fare guy i think that is a fare comment and not harsh
I see your under 25 - what sort of insurance you going to pay on you\'re highly modded car?
John
Lets just hope he is THE one, some pictures of the build would be good, who knows he might get a reputation as a 1st class rotary expert :yes As an aside I think you will find you will only get what you pay for in this life be it a re-built engine or a new house.

You seem to have all the answers already. If your mate is all that - "his worked on many rx7s none have gone wrong and they all sound beefy" - WTF are you asking us for? :D :rollin
Let us know how u get on - whats the ETA on the car and build?
Give the guy a break, he asked a fair question, and the risk is all on his car, in a few months if his workmanship is good and this car does what its supposed to do, some may want his service.
The BHP from your car will depend on several things, how large the port is, where it starts and finishes, as that will determine the amount of lag, turbos not huge but I recon an easy 400bhp could be made, Im not the expert but will be interesting to see the build as it happens.
If your friend does not object, photograph and post the project as it moves along, lets see the ports, etc and we can get a better picture.
Good luck, several guys on here that are not mechanics have built there engines so theres no reason why your friend can\'t.
Ok, bit of a hijack here. WHy is it when ever some says they are getting a rebuild done by someone other than a MRC approved pro do people suggest its going to end in tears? I\'d never so much as looked at a wankel engine b4 I pulled mine apart and breathed upon it. As long as the person building the engine has sound engineering knowledge and can understand the concepts (which is easier on a rotary than an otto IMO) then there can be no problem. I can however understand that experience of mapping a rotary is important when it comes to getting it tuned in a safe way.
Not meant as a rant BTW :)

Partially agree Brett, but when modifying and rx7 for high performance, the porting & clearancing etc can have a big impact on reliability. So on this point you really do need to know what you are doing I think is the point that was attempted to be made.
rgds
Agreed, I was just in agrieved mode :)
Still, for a bit of porting (nothing monster like) as long as you have taken careful note of the tolerances you should be ok. (Ie you dont go and drive the tool into the water jacket)
Everyone has to start somewhere :)

???
Brigde ports are no problem, street ports can go just as wrong if not done right.
From the description, I think it is me that is building your engine and kareem is doing the rest of the build.
Respect should go out to dragon performance, re works, rx motors etc, as there prices are not bad if you add up the price of all the new parts, and what they are doing getting the rotary engine on the map against those skylines.
nice to know the guy has built some 500+ cars though !! ;-)

I have no problem with this I always like the owners to see/photograph there engine before I assemble.

Not sure about this statement! As we all know, rotaries need fairly regular rebuilds even in stock trim - the harder tuned, the shorter the engine life potentially. I wouldn\'t say a bridge is the ONLY porting to cause problems, mine runs fine!
Still I have rebuilt a 12a, not quite right I must admit, but anyone who has experience in engine building and understands the way a rotary works should be able to rebuild one, and if your mate is prepared to offer a guarantee the work then see how it pans out!
I think what the guys are saying Francovel3 is just be wary, many on this site have learned the hard way and would not want you to go down the route they have, i mean, loads of lost time on the road and loads of expense, when it could have been done right in the first place. Plus i would be very very wary of claims of huge horsepower, i know its possible but 500+ hp out of both the cars you mention is massive to say the least, especially as you consider one of the vendors on here who you mentioned does hold the current quarter mile record for a european rotary has strived very hard to get 500 + hp and learned a lot in the process.
thanku very much jaydee you are number 1 in my books kareem said hello please put my pictures on for me thanks
ps respect to Dragon and Re-works but also 2 KAREEM/JAYDEE my builder at Power Gains we will c the finished car in 2 months..........
hello jetpilot i have full convidence in him and have known him for a very long time when you love engines as much as he does im 99% sure the engine work will be the NUTS you can never say 100% everything is gana be alright its about trust........

Your engine runs properly cause it was built properly its the length of life on them thats all. Fare answer i think

My builders are JAYDEE and KAREEM top men of the rotary world and yes i will get some pics of my parts you will love my intercooler jus gimmie a little time thanks..........

You are in safe hands francovel3. JayDee really does know what he\'s doing. :yes

jaydee
I\'ve tried to pm you but I can\'t
could you e-mail me on dean@thai-jantra.co.uk please fella. I wanna ask you a couple of questions about your rebuilds if thats ok with you my man.
Thanks a lot
I am not part of powergains, Kareem is a very old friend of mine from the good ole days in our modified cars.
I just build the engines for him.
Jason
the question is do you build engines for anyone else?
Quote from: J.j.You are in safe hands francovel3. JayDee really does know what he\'s doing. :yes
thanks mate im getting abit exited!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What can I say Jay :god top man shame you could not be more specific last nite, hope yer tuner is of the same calibre :D
Hi, iam new to this aswell.
I am currently waiting for my RX to come from Japan and i cant wait!!!. I am using kerim from powergains aswell to do everything for me. I have been to his garage and he is a top bloke and knows his stuff. I am a mechanic myself and by visiting and speaking to him personally he is a professional and trustworthy mechanic. He hides nothing from you and is honest. I think trusting a person to work on your car is very important, if not done right you could end up in dept. I havent met him for long but iam sure i can trust him with all the money and my time. I am going to have a white rx7 fd, with a medium or large street port, uprated intercooler, full rebuild, management and a single turbo build. Just hoping car would arrive i just cant wait!. JD iam sure you would be porting my engine aswell so i say hello to you first :p
Anyways, once my RX is running i would organise some meets in the North London area, i hope some of you guys may be interested. I work in st. albans hertdfordshire and iam from enfield.
Hope speaking to you guys soon! btw i just turned 21 and i will be spending a lot of money for my age on this car, so i think this proves how much trust i got on powergains to build be a fast and reliable rx.
regards, LoX
