Just curious :)
Does anyone have an FD showing signs of rust? Some of them are over 13 years old now, so if they are going to rust it will be starting to show.
:wave
Got a tiny dot on the edge of driver\'s door and a spot on the arch where it\'s pulled a bit. None underneath from what I can see...
A dull patch on the drivers door at the bottom that im sure in a few years will show rust. Hopefully it will be resprayed before then though.
Seems they like rusting on the doors more than the FC\'s then. I take it you\'ve all taken Waxoyl based precautions then?
Not a spec of rust on mine anywhere.
Not a spec of rust on mine too (1993)
Are your cars UK ones or Imports though?
Imports I imagine - seen some pretty mouldy UK cars at the workshop! :D
Mines an import too 1993. Not a single drop on the car anywhere.
It gave my mate heartfailure when he checked his 1991 R32 Skyline under the rear spats and found some the size of a 20 pence piece :rollin
Seriously though, when underneath I checked in the usual places and found nothing.
A 1993 Fiesta or Escort will be horrendous !!
Gareth
got a dot of dust happening on the roof !!!! :( ...
If you want to cheer yourself up Sy, check out the FC related rust stories! Right now we have a TII in the 2nd gen, minus its floor!
So how mouldy were the UK ones then?
It seem there is not much rain in the land of the rising sun so i guess they did\'nt think wax oil was realy needed!
I can second the Uk spec\'s cars i\'ve seen are all showing signs. My pal has a 94 Uk that is going round the rear Arches,Sill seam\'s and sun roof hole (roof skin). As the Uk cars had better weather protection and have a few years up on the Jap Imports It does make you wounder what some of the imports will look like in five years? (If not looked after)
imports are far better condition than uk spec cars,i presume most people know this??we have more rain than any1 else in the world...plus salty roads! It would pay big time if any1 bought an import to underseal the chassis and inside the doors,,just done mine and i cant find rust anywhere..not even the bolts holding the front bumper on. ive read brouchers about the fd rx7 and they boast that they made the seat frames out of plastic to save weight, but its not true..ive seen a burnt out fd rx7 and they are steel..you would think mazda would have made the rx7 out of alu instead of galvanized steel if they were so concerned about the weight. surely alu would be better than galvanized steel??

Mine is a french car (1993).
SO, based on this knowledge, how many of you have waxoyled or protected in some other way, your FD\'s then?
Wax probably 3 times a year, no rust at all :wiggle
I have a 95 UK car - little bit under the rear arches and a tiny bit not yet through the paint on the rim of the sunroof. The arches have 2 layers of metal? are these easy to get done and should they be done sooner rather than later? I also wax the body quite a lot every year.
Ok, but are you chaps actually using Waxoyl or an equivilent on the underside of the car and inside any box sections, inside the bottom of the doors etc, or are you only waxing the paint?
Not using any prevention stuff at the moment but I think I will re-seal (want a full rust check first to make sure im not sealing over rust etc)
92 fd, no signs of rust anywhere. The laquer is starting to causea lot of problems though.
mine was waxoyled when it came over small dot of rust on rear hatch where paint had chipped & wasnt noticed. no rust on rest of exterior body or underside , a little starting to show where the steel arches where cut away but think this is mostly to from tyre rubbing waxoyl away. Nothing on wings or bonnet, but they\'re wouldnt be cos they\'re f/glass
Waxoyl will absorb into the rust, so if its only surface rust, a bit of waxoyl will prevent it getting worse. You can buy clear waxoyl too if its in a place where black oily streaks will cause comment...
I wouldnt like to baremetal it to find out if there is any other rust, 4 days paint stripping & DA\'ing a hillman imp this week has been enough
Just got mine professionally done by Michael at Rustmaster.co.uk
Very good service and very helpful
Regards
Mark
no rust either
