Been looking at engine dampers, saw a few on ebay and just wondering if they are any good, i mean an engine damper is an engine damper right? all it needs to do is asorb the vibration/twist from the engine.
Cheers
Gav
Thats like saying a shock absorber is a shock absorber (suspension wise...) all it needs to do is absorb the vibration/bumps from the road ;)
to be honest I dont know. although I wouldnt mind one myself but I do know you get what you pay for in this life ;)
speak to a guy called MULV - he uses the rear shock from a mountain bike - looks pretty cool and does the job !
Kev has one on his 20B cosmo too ... looks just the job (home made mountain bike shock one that is)
are you stalking me mike ??? LOL
paranoid ? maybee you should be LoL
Some people run with these but i dont really see the point unless you have serious power

I put one on after seeing how much i could rock the engine by hand, and no i dont have knackered engine mounts.
Does it make a difference to driving????? not really, the only thing that really has changed is when i start it up the whole car now rocks as i turn the engine over as opposed to before where the engine would just rock.
mountain bike shocker works just fine on the cosmo and there adjustable to suit your set up.

So basically your saying there is no point until big boost? i mean i am aiming for a safe (if possible) 500bhp in the future.

I disagree - I think it would be worthwhile, especially on 10 year old mounts like what you have all got. I\'ve got a little bit of flex I think, and I\'ve got half the torque of an RX7.
Why not just replace the mounts. You cant replace knackered mounts with braces. I have no engine brace and only recently got a diff brace but that is to try and save my diff at high rpm.
Scott
I think engine mounts are a top idea. Considering their cost I would suspect they\'re in the same ball-park as new engine mounts, if not less. I ordered one of ebay which turned up last week, although they seem to have sent through the wrong brackets!
They\'re pretty good if you\'re doing hard launches off the line to help keep everything in check. I\'ve also got a gearbox and diff brace and a B&M shortshifter going in all for under £400. Should give quite a nice feel to the old girl, I\'ll let you know how it works out.

I managed to snap an engine mount recently on a track day and I\'m not making massive power (293 rwhp). I\'m not sure if a damper would\'ve helped but I suspect it would\'ve!
Depends on what you use it for - road use, probably no need. track/big hp? probably.
Well i may as well get the engine mounts uprated as well as getting hold of the engine damper the damper i saw on ebay is this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=42609&item=7988355024&sspagename=WDVW
What mounts would be worthwhile to look at?

you\'ve just reminded me, i have one of those very items that i bought months ago, and evidently forgot to fit lol. ill dig it out, fit it, and let you know what i think
Yo pete, you got it running yet? (just to jog your memory, i came to see you when you were selling the HKS intercooler on Ebay).
Scott
howdy fella
yeah i got it running eventually. i got fed up of looking at it lol. i told everybody there was no more work getting done round here until my cars finished. its been dyno\'d at around 425 fwhp without the nitrous so im quite happy with that. pip at wgt had issues controlling the boost accurately over 1 bar, so thats all its running at the moment. i discovered the problem on the way home when the wastegate jammed wide open, so im awaiting the arrival my new one eagerly!
