Hi All .
I know its probably a question that almost everyone asks but what to do next to the ReX ... i am after about 300/350 RWBHP in the end as i think this is enough for normal street use.
What i have so far ... (not alot)
Full through Katimoto exhaust (no cats no silencers)
Possible Chip (not confirmed on paper but rotary guy said it is faster then standard, could just be when it was rebuilt they mapped/tuned it slightly)
HKS air induction.
Blitz BOV (not that it makes any performance gains)
i hear a Power FC is the first thing to get .... comments ?
Im running a full through exhaust
Blitz filters
.9Bar off boost
PFC
Blitz BOV
think thats about it, made 325bhp on the rollers at pips place...
so best to up the boost by 0.2 bar .. and get a PFC ...
so that would be about 280ish rwbhp ?
Whats a PFC and what does it do?
Adam
I can\'t stress enough how important it is to get a PFC, I am currently waiting for Reworx to tell me how much my rebuild is going to cost, a rebuild on a car I bought four weeks ago!
The previous owner had it rebuilt only 12 months ago but because he had uprated parts (intercooler, exhaust etc) and was running a stock ECU, it went pop soon after I got it.
If it had benn fitted with a PFC i would be driving a luvverly, 300+rwhp monster right now, instead, I am driving a 1.5 diesel van and desperately trying to figure out ways of making extra cash!
Definately go for a PFC and if you want solid reliable power, get it ported while you\'re at it.
MIne was rebuilt 2000 miles ago .. (by previous owner) so it should be ok ... but sounds like the PFC is the way to go ... how much are they ?
Ada7 .. its a power Fuel Commander i think .. but not 100% on what it does .. or what it can tell me .
Its costing me about £550 i think from Reworx, dont quote me on that though! needs to be setup by a specialist too which costs a few quid

The Apexi Power FC is a programmable replacement for the stock ECU. There are other replacement ECUs but the Apexi is the most popular in the UK and there are several who can tune these for you - by hooking up a laptop running the tuning software Datalogit they can download a map and then tweak for your specific car.
The commander - this is a small display with buttons and a cable that connects to the Apexi Power FC. The commander allows you to monitor many items that the Apexi sees - boost, revs, various temps, voltage etc. You can also program the Apexi Power FC via the commander but very laborious. Many mount the commander on the dash, the R-Magic commander holder is the most popular mount.

Ada - PFC is the Apexi ECU. The PFC commander is a kinda \'T\' shaped Gameboy thing that you can map it with (although it has limited options, and a very slow process mapping with it). Its vital to have somthing like this to change the amount of fuel is pupmed in at what rpm and change the timing. Its also like 15 gauges in one, it can display rev, water temp, airtemp, speed, knock etc...
The datalogit (which isn\'t made by Apexi but was deigned by somem Aussies to make it easier to change your map and other things by using a laptop instead of the hand held controller). You can change at what temperature the fans kick in with this which is usful aswell as a whole lot more stuff.
Dam you beat me to it, serves me right for taking 10mins to type two paragraphs ;)
wow .. great info there guys .. thanks .
Definatly sounds the way forward ... can it be hooked up to a 6" screen and displayed more clearly (eyesight not as good as it was)
Next question .. where to get one that does not break the bank . :D
It can\'t be hooked up to a screen I\'m afraid, I might have a couple of second hand ones in the pipeline at a good price, will have to wait a little while to find out thought.
So would something like this be the next step in getting some more use able power, and how much are they and how easy to set up?
At the moment the only engine mods i have are an Blitz Twin Filter induction kit and straight though Blitz Nur spec pipe.
Adam
To be honest Ada, from the little info I have found out in the last few weeks, if you are running a stock ECU with those mods your engine is probably not fuelling properly and running lean which in worst case could result in detonation, i.e cracked rotor tip, which would mean a rebuild. (what happened to me)
I would get it looked at by a specialist before you spend too much time with your right foot flat on the floor, you could save yourself some serious cash if you spot any possible problems now.
When they look inside and say \'yeah you\'ve lost a tip, thats a rebuild\' you will wish you got it looked at sooner! its not a nice moment!
p.s. anyone who knows more than me about rotaries (most people then) feel free to correct me if I am needlessly scaremongering here!
SORRY TO HIJACK THIS THREAD SY, DANDAN, any news on your engine yet? as to whats happened to it, how bad? i know a specialist guy in Bournemouth who rebuilt mine, not far from Southampton! is it under guarantee?
Cheers Bob
Hi Ro,
The engine is being sorted by Reworx, slowly but surely i hope! Just missed out on the guarantee period, although i looked at the warranty and it says using synthetic oils will invalidate it anyway so there was no chance i would get any joy from that. Apparently when synthetic oils first came out they did something to some seals in the rotary so tuners wouldn\'t warrant using them. technology has moved on i think so its not a problem any more.
What is the name of this place in bournemouth out of interest?
SY,
The Apexi Power FC is definately the way forward. It will transform your car just by plugging it in and running the standard map, you\'ll be running richer than you are now with your stock ecu. When i got mine it felt like driving a new car.
Getting up to 300/350 rwhp is something else though cos you\'ll be limited by how much boost you can run. Firstly by the intercooler cos intake temps will rise and then secondly the fueling. You don\'t wanna max out your injector duty cycle, so going for an uprated fuel pump or even a fuel pressure regulator will increase your fueling to get you up to the bhp you desire.
:3gears-lh
Hi Dre .
Filters are on .... well i hope there all plugged in lol .
Car will run richer ... Damn ... its alread 7% over on the emissions test. but when it is remapped im sure it will sort it all out .
next question ... who can get hold of a PFC .
allstaruk - you will have to send me an email at the mom till i become a full member.
Sy i just bought one on ebay for £490 and the guy is selling more at buy it now price of £500 i think, this includes the ecu and the commander. 2-3 week delivery time though.
ooh just found an even cheaper one, damn i already bought mine!

cheers Mate .... ill have a look . looks a good price .
Hi Sy
With a Stock ECU, Induction and Straight through exhaust you are fast on the way to a rebuild imho
You will find your boost probably spikes over std now and again, this will cause it to run lean, and you\'ll chuck a tip
Assuming you\'ve got a stock EDU though, I\'d check personally before I floored it
Sy / Ada7 - Defo get a PFC as your next mod. Mine had been ported but when adding induction and straight thru exhaust it was under fueling so be prepared to fork out for bigger fuel pump and larger injectors.
Next step would be to look at adequte cooling to keep things safe and give a little more bhp. You should be able to get around 350 rwhp on those sort of mods.

THREAD HIJACK
Rich, my car is being rebuilt at the moment, it has straight through exhaust, big intercooler, it went bang cos stock ECU was not fuelling right. I\'m thinking of getting it ported whiile it is being rebuilt, would I be advised to look at bigger injectors and fuel pump too? Reworx estimated it would have been running 300rwhp before it went pop.

I cannot tell you how right this is.
With your mods you need an uprated ECU ASAP. Otherwise you could well det and be in rebuild territory before you know it.
It could have been rebuilt yesterday and the same would apply.
Sort your fueling NOW. Otherwise it could be a 4 grand bill rather than a 500 quid bill.
Dandan - Mine was ported and had KSP catback zorst when I got it. Went to Pips (WGT) for induction kit, decat and downpipes and Apexi PFC fitting. On the mapping session the car was running lean so it wasn\'t an option and I had to get bigger injectors and pump (and lighter wallet). So if your porting with your current mods I\'d say you\'d need the injectors and pump.
Rich
aah dammit, thanks rich.
Does anyone know if you can sell bodyparts on ebay?
i mean, who needs TWO kidneys?
You might want to try selling your liver to Scooby Si after this weekend :p
Well it sounds pretty much the way forward for anyone is PFC ... so the hunt goes on ... :D
what sort of fuel pump and larger injectors should i go for ? and how much are they ?
---------
Mine was rebuilt with the full through exhaust so that part should be safe for the mom .

Bloody hell!!! Just had the engine rebuilt and i\'m not going though that again!. Bets check what ECU i have and if its standard, start looking at getting an uprated one before i put my foot down hard again!
Thanks guys, Scared of driving it now!! :(
