I have been on the US RX forum and they have been talking about a kit to convert the doors into Lambo style using just a set of uprated hinges, the kit costs $1900. I have seen the RE Amemiya kit and they use lighter doors and rams to lift the door not hinges. I know Garry had his doors converted I was wondering how he had it done and any pics.
Thanks
I\'ve been wondering about this conversion for a long time now.
I was gonna do it on my crx, but things have changed and now, and i want them on the RX7:D
$1900 seems quite expensive for the kit tho.
try //www.decah.com
I\'ve been talking to a kitcar builder up here, and he reckons he can make a kit up for any car...for a lot less than the $1900 on that US site.
I\'ll let you know when i get my RX, as this is one of the first cosmetic mods i would like to do.
Dan!!
Before you go to far with this, make sure the kit biulder will garentee the fitment WITHOUT ripping your car apart. ie will you still be able to use your door linings how much moddification to the doors will you have to do. So many people sell goods to fit a car or as they say universal, which normally means, spent enough money on the job and it will eventually fit.
The doors on an fd have to come out and then up, its not straight forward.
Times what your looking at by 10 and that is what my doors have cost and a lot of very clever work and months of trials to get what is now a nearly finished job.
Just be very carefull.
O yeah, i appreciate how much work is involved, the guy makes the kits up himself, he doesnt really use a universal kit as such, he makes up the hinges, base plates, uses the right hydraulic lifts etc etc.
Theres a serious amount of engineering and maths involved with this conversion, and a lot of work.
Is your conversion almost done G11ARY?
Was it a kitcar builder thats done yours...or a local bodyshop?
Is it being done to your current yellow RX7..or have you another RX project?
Deffo post some pics please once it is done...cant wait to see it!
There is a kit that you can use the doors as normal, or pop them up as scissor doors
I\'ll try and find the website again.
Cheers,
dan!!

Does look very evil.
That looks fab Gary. Well worth the money in my opinion.
rgds
all i got to do now mate is make it go evil.
hey garry
seen you at totb2, didnt say hi though. I was expecting to see you doing the 1/4 and track, surely you would have been very quick:D:D :D
on another note, who washed your car:eek: lol only joking it still looked awsome:D :D :D
who were the other 7ns there. were they all FDUK? i liked the red ported one sounded wicked:D 13.29 1/4 not bad.
After seeing these pics I really want to get these doors. They would also be a great help as I am 6ft3" tall and trying to get out of the FD in a parking space is murder:D
Gary are the doors hinged or ar they on ram type lifter as the RE ones?
Gary....top top top job!!!
I think lambo style doors suit the FD3 down to the ground.
Excellent:cool
Dan!!
they are on rams, and believe it or not they make it slightly more awkward to get in and out and im only 5\'10"
although in car parks you dont have the problem of the doors opening right out although the easy fix to this is take 2 parking spaces up, plenty of room for doors then. The door when lifted up still is in front of you so can only exit out the rear half of the door area. I think you would find it ni on impos at your ht. Look at first.
Nice one Gary - lookin bloody good!
Does look good, anyone thought about roof hinged doors so they lift up?
a lot of work fitting the rams etc into the roof, would look good tho.

Think they were all FDUK...
The red ported one is Geff\'s (RE:Worx), half-bridgeport motor built by Hayward Rotary. It ran a quickest on the day of 12.37, not 13.29 ;) Couldnt get it to make more than 13psi boost though
I drove it back from york - lots of fun :D interesting tangle with a (presumably replica!) D-type Jag. Thing was real quick, still with me at 6k in 4th. Had to wind her right out in 5th to really put some distance between us ;) :) :) :)

G\'Day 20B_Boy!
What MPH did Geff run?

sorry poor memory:rolleyes: what boost should it run? and what power was it running at 13psi? i thought about 400-450
174 mph

Any thing between about 7 and 13psi usually I think. But Geff was bitten by the go faster bug after a few runs and not blewing her up - so did away with all boost control solenoids. Still didnt want to go more than 13psi when effectively running a bleed valve set up (if I understand these things right - which I probably dont!). Help Glenn!

PS I\'d guess around 400FWHP based purely on Ant and Max\'s sub 13 second runs with about 360FWHP...
Hmmmm, not sure - it could be a number of things. I understand it was pretty hot on the day? Does he still have the twin turbo\'s on?
Also - if the exhaust is restrictive, then it wont boost over a certain point.
.ps What was the 1/4 mile MPH?

Yeah, f#cking hot - by our pommy standards any ways :D

Nope, its some hybrid single he got from god knows where. He thought it was a T04R originally but it\'s not I\'m sure, I think its smaller. It\'s some kind of hybrid - dont remember the A/R\'s - not much help huh?! I think he\'s concluded that it is the problem though.

I was thinking this yesterday whilst pondering. I know he had an 80mm RMagic D/P and M/P when he was still on the twins, not sure whats on it atm...
Quote.ps What was the 1/4 mile MPH?
Ready? 12.37 at 123mph :D Not bad, huh? Presuming the timing equipment was in good order of course!!!
R.
what ehaust did he have on, it was nice and ported sounding on idol, but on the 1/4 strip it was very quiet.
Yeah, nice half bridge port overlap on idle. Think it\'s a decent system i.e. big dump pipe, mid pipe, not sure of what catback it was...
Reasonably quiet though I guess. Have to admit that it wasnt that droning on the way back. Although that may have been cause I didnt notice it over the noise of the large angry wasp in the boot (Bosch 044) :D
The turbo is actually quite small, especially on the compressor side. It would be more comparable to a To4E, which is 2 sizes smaller than the the R.
Agreed. The whole turbo is more T04E in size. Thinking about it I think I may have misquoted him on the \'T04R\'-bit. I think the \'R\' I remember was some thing to do with the application the turbo had been originally designed for, Cossie R500 may be?
Ahh, buggered if I can remember!
May be he\'ll chuck the GT42 on it and see how it spools :D
R.
Hmmm...I\'ve seen that page before somewhere too.
Note the text in the last column; I wonder whether this is really the GT42 that Garrett market for aftermarket car apps? Or some thing from a little further back down the evolutionary scale! I know a lot of the big BB turbos originally came from deisel apps.
Garrett site and catalogue appears bang up to date so I wuold guess their figures are right?
Presumably if larger exh hsings are availalbe then they are custom jobs?
Interesting....
