Title: Nasty wheelspin off the line
Post by: zeno on July 17, 2005, 07:57:03 PM
Hello everyone and thankyou for this forum, which I have found very helpful. Needless to say I am a newbie and apologise in advance if I am posting in the wrong place. I have a 2004 231 bhp RX8. In every car I have ever had I have tried a fast start involving a lot of revs, wheelspin and smoke (childish I know). In the RX8, I pressed and held down the dsc button to turn off the traction control, pumped up the revs (6k) and popped the clutch, it was horrible it felt like there was not enough power to overcome the grip of the potenzas so it moved forward in a series of rough jerks, very unpleasant and obviously not good for the car. I have been able to move off smoother and faster by letting the clutch up progressively

Maybe you just dont do wheelspins in this car, I would appreciate any thoughts on this. By the way I love the car (best handling car I\'ve had so far).

its called wheel hop, the RX7 owners know it well!!!  there are several kits that will help you overcome this for RX7s, however i am unsure for RX8s.

Do a wheelspin sideways, i bet it dont happen then :D

Thks Bobfish.  The stig seemed to be able to do it without the hop.  I\'ll try the sideways start otherwise I\'ll just forgoe the wheelspin and save my tyres, acceleration isnt where this car provides the most fun anyway.

You need to do it at higher rpms (Get the wheels spinning faster) to get rid of the hop...or get new bushings as these wear!

I\'m pretty sure stiffer bushes really help in eliminating wheel hop.  It\'s a compromise though between wheel hop and comfort.  Solid bushes would be the best, but transmit a lot of road vibration...

This is true, but they are also expensive.  A Full feed solid bush kit for the rear is £750...
