Title: Apexi PFC flashing my exhaust warning light
Post by: Mart160plus on July 16, 2005, 08:11:25 PM
So, had the PFC installed professionally whilst I had some other mods completed (Clive, you are and always will be a star sir!!) but not mapped due to time/money/distance etc...., took a good few hundred miles for the idle to settle down, fine on the trip to Nurburgring and back, since I get back to the UK the exhaust heat warning light has flashed a few times. Now the guide says it will do this when detonation is occuring, but it only happens at one point, when I let my foot right off the accelerator with or without changing gear, and it happens during the gear change (no accelerator pressure).

Apart from the \'well get it mapped then you fool\', any ideas, experience of this, reasons to worry my socks off ? Car\'s blinding otherwise, load, fast and quick, even economical (25mpg+ over distance).

Cheers,

Mart.

I would recommend getting the ECU reset, so that it self learns again. Then that way it will be learning on UK fuel, not European stuff.

Hi Mart,

Just got my car back after a rebuild and have a similar thing. Does the Knock bar spike up momentarily when the warning light flashes on? I called Pip about it and he said the knock sensor is a microphone and there may be a rattle somewhere in the engine which it is picking up. He said also that as long as you are off the accelerator it shouldn\'t be anything to worry about. He\'s going to look at mine when I take it back after the run in period so I can\'t tell you for certain if thats what it is.

Hope this helps
Barry

Hi Martin, please don\'t worry about this as the light is to tell you if the Cat is overheating and seeing as you have no cat fitted this is not a probem.

Hope this helps.

sounds like the knock warning as mentioned above. To find out for sure, you can disable it via the PFC commander (can\'t remember in which menu though :( )

edit: it\'s under [etc]/[Function select] 3. knock warning

How do you re-set the apexi so that it self learns the idle again, would like to do mine again.

Max, can you not reset the Apexi so that it does the learning cycle again? I thought you could.

Howdy Dan :)

Indeed you can reset the Power FC either with the commander or Datalogit.

This will reset any settings back to base stock map (so don\'t do this if you\'ve been mapped or have larger injectors etc)!!!

The Power FC then behaves like a fresh one, including bouncy idle to start with. The Apexi won\'t learn anything to do with fuel other than how to make the engine idle.

Sounds to me like the Knock sensor needs changing.

Top stuff folks, cheers for the peace of mind. FWIW, the first 900 miles of the PFC were done on Optimax here in the UK before we went across the channel.
Will get the PFC mapped at some point, gonna install the cold air mod first, get some more O2 in there!

See you all at the weekend, will be arriving Friday night about 8.30/9 I think.

Mart.
