bah humbug
knickers knockers knackers
Sounds like its not the engines at fault but some ancilary item fuel pump ecu etc. It can\'t be that likely that two engines would go the same way at similar milages more likley some common item to both engines
Kevin
lets see what what in the morning
Sorry to hear of that, but what do you mean about putting your foot down after only 200 miles? Just wondering if it had to be run in more before doing that?
I am sure that Tim will help you out.
regards
Carl
no it was run in before i got it. Probly done more like 500miles

Fair enough,
Anyway it may be something quite trivial, get Tim to have alook at it.

Saw you sitting at the side of the A21 yesterday evening and thought how nice it was to see another RX7 owner with his car off the road!!! Mine has been in and out of the paintshop/engine builders for the past year.
I deleted my anti rotary rant because I thought I\'d best investigate a little more before slagging off the new engine.
Well, the mystery continues. Turned the key this morning and the bugger coughed for a bit then fired straight up!!!
Dont want to drive it though untill the problem is sourced.
Stupid expensive toy.
Oh and thanks Topline, glad someone witnessd my misery but it really doesn\'t help!
Its getting the car to Dorset thats the problem. I dont feel inclined to pay another couple of hundred to transport it (again) after just spending £4K on a new lump.
Look on the bright side,at least it is not a major problem.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Regards
Carl
Don
Sorry to hear about your problem with car. I have a Series 1 Mark II and I have personal membership of the RAC. Just means that WHATEVER car I\'m with, even if its not mine, they have to come out to it. Covers me for my normal car also. Must be worth getting, surely? Tim will vouch that they have taken my car down to him at least 3 times in the past! Think my membership was about £160 (onward travel, homestart, etc). They usually take one look at it, see its an RX7 and ask where i want it taken!!
I have the RAC membership that covers me in whatever vehicle. Had this broken down earlier in the day I probably would have taken it straight there - didn\'t know if I had to go with the car too!
Don
if you\'re with the RAC I know for a fact that (a) they will take you home, and if necessary, arrange for onward transport to a garage (I expect this is so long as taking you home is quite near on the first leg) and (b) you don\'t have to go with the vehicle (but you have to be there when they pick it up.) If you call them now, say you were taken home but have to get the onward transport to Tim\'s, they should be able to sort that out. They\'ve never queried with me that its a classic, or a 22 year old car, etc.
Good luck, sure Tim will put it right, but he can\'t if its not there!!
:)
Sorry, should also have said that I have always made it quite clear when the RAC man comes out that if it has to get taken to a garage, it has to go to a specialist rotary engineer and they have never quibbled with that.
Best wishes,
Mary
I very much doubt that the RAC will swallow a 250 mile onward journey! I know it will get sorted once its there, its just such a massive pain up the a**e.
why not :) I\'ve done it before and will do it again when the need arises ... they get enough money to cover it all the years when I don\'t use it.
what happened anyway ... I\'ve not replied before as this thread doesn\'t make a lot of sense now
I don\'t think they would even query it Don. It simply has to go back to the gentleman who built the engine, which is Tim at RX Motors. As I said, they have never queried mine going, which is 100 miles or so, as I have simply said its a specialist engine and has to go to a specialist mechanic. Get it off to Tim, get it back and then enjoy the rest of the summer! Could do with seeing another Series 1 at the shows!!! :)
I wouldn\'t have thought they\'d have an issue, last time mine died on me the AA man came out, said "oh, it\'s an RX7 - Do you want me to have a look or do you want it trailered, if so where to?" I said that at 5:00 on a Saturday evening I didn\'t want it taken to Dorset! But they then said well call if you still can\'t get it started during the week and we\'ll take it then.
Hi
When mine needed to go back to Tim\'s I used my AA membership, although I only have roadside/relay (almost the lowest membership). The only stipulation was that the car had to be more that 1/4 of a mile from my house, and I had already got the AA to trailer it back to my house. No problem though as a friend towed me just outside of town and I called the AA again, who turned up to find my mate and I returning from the pub, and then trailered it the 90 miles down to dorset.
Call the RAC up, that\'s why you pay your membership!
Well, the RAC wouldn\'t have it - recovery guy said I would have to go with the car, right then to dorset! My membership covers me, in any car, but I think I have to be there to take home.
Anyhoo, seems it was the fuel pump that died on me. Felt sure it was a fuel problem of some sort.
Weird - I thought posted an explanation of this thread, but i cant find it now. Must have posted a confusing rant on some unrelated thread!
Well anyhoo - I deleted most of what I first posted, cos I was angry when I came home on the back of a flat bed after using the RX for only its second \'more than a mileish\' journey. Thought I\'d bestt find out what was wrong before slagging off engines & builders.
Turns out it was the fuel pump. Who\'s fault is that?
So is it sorted?
Mary :)
Will be yeah. Whether I can afford the bill is another matter tho - been training as an electrician all year so I\'ve paid loads to colleges & earn\'t buggerall! Maybe I can do Tim\'s dishes for a couple of years?
They\'re stripping down the suspension tryin to find where the disturbing noises are comming from & fitting a boost controller (& new fuel pump obviously).
More expensive than children these RX7s
On a differnt subject - can anyone reccommend a decent paint sprayer type person in the Kent/Sussex area?
Theres a few around here (west Sussex) I\'ve not used any of them though. Best bet is to have a look at any recent work they ahve done, or a work in progress. The one nearest me is Adrian Dance, I can get you his number if you want.
That would be cool, thanks.
