Title: Air con problem with FD
Post by: Bobfish on July 14, 2005, 08:52:53 PM
Guys,

fitted a new Aircon pump today (second hand but known working) but it does not work!

It LOOKS alot better than the last one, but when i switch the AC on, just the fan comes on - the pump does not start to turn.  All wiring looks good and is connected.  It is not a problem with the car as i removed the last one due to a fried clutch mechanism (the old one turned, by very jerkily)

Is there anyway to test? how do i make the cluth engage manually, apply 12v to the wire?

any help appreciated

Thanks

Check any fuses and wiring to the a/c. Your "Fried" clutch may of blown the fuse and/or damaged your wiring.
Cant help you with the fuse location as I\'m at work and the cars at home.

If all checks out ok, and I was troubleshooting, I would put 12v onto the pump magnetic clutch to check the operation, next.

Have you had it recharged yet? The pump will not start if there is not enough pressure in the system.

There is a pressure switch in the system which will stop the pump engaging if there is not enough pressure. I can\'t say you don\'t have another fault but this needs sorting first

Mate - if you don\'t manage to get sorted I can recommend a first class specialist in hemel - seriously. What the guy doesn\'t know about car heating systems and air con \'aint worth knowing.
