Title: gauge mounting
Post by: Psycosis on July 14, 2005, 01:08:17 PM
I have a question, i have just had to buy 3 gauges (volt meter, oil pressure and water temp).
The are to replace the gauges on the dash as the wiring isn\'t too happy.

Where should i mount them?

I was told my the guy fitting them he wouldn\'t do an A-Pillar pod because the dash is too tight and said a 3 pod mounted on the dash would be better, but they look quite big.

Any ideas?
It on as FC, and the interior is red.

I just noticed that and just finished reading it. The guy said the space is about 2/3 the height of the radio and the gauges won\'t fit in.

Maybe its because mine wasn\'t a turbo II

What is your then? Egi or Cab?  Does it still have the standard radio?

Got no pics, but I took the centre air vents in the dash out of mine and put the gauges in there.  They are a lovely fit, and in the perfect place to look at easily...

sounds like i may do that then, use the vents.

Its has a some 300 year old radio with turn knobs and big clunky buttons.
I plan to replace it, but it is the standard DIN sized radio.
Its a non turbo\'d UK spec car. i have pics at home if it helps.

You may be able to mount 2 gauges in the ash try section, assuming they are no too deep.

What are the dimensions of your guages?

i have 3 2" gauges, regular ones.
Seeing as they are replacing the dash gauges i want them near the regular ones.

On another note, do you any any replacement speedo\'s for the Gen II?

My other plan was to make a completely different dash, but the speedo doesn\'t appear to be easy to move,

I think there is plenty of room where the vents are.

This is the only inside picture of my car.

move the radio to the very bottom and the gauge will fit in the top bit :)

thats all i did - mine had a little plastic tray under the radio - remove that , drop radio into that space , and gauges fit above it

its the same on the EGI and the turbo and the cabs

simple :)

yeah - but the hazzard switch is the red one on the top left of the dash cowl !!

move the hazzard switch onto the centre console where the mirrors are

looks like you car is an early EGI - what year is it - about 86 ??

I will have a go at moving it when i get it back.

yeah thats about right - its a doddle to move the radio

remove the WHOLE front of the dash - from the top vents to the ash try

and you can work on it in the house then :)

as you can see my radio is old, i guess the cage easilly fits in the space below where the radio normally goes.
