Post by: scud on July 14, 2005, 12:42:24 AM
Hi All

Has anyone one this forum got a 2.4cc rx7, got a quote today for 350 quid on classic car policy, just to make sure i phoned them back and it was for a 2.4cc rex.

Can you get this sized engine ?

Cheers
Scud

all 3rd gen FD Rx7 came with the 13B 1308cc REW engine, 2 rotors, each rotor 654cc, therefore 2x654 = 1308cc. But for tax purposes Mazda agreed with the DVLA to quote them as 2616cc. The 2.4cc figure you have is the agreed figure for the previous RX7 FC 2nd gen.

Also, beware: with some classic policies you lose your NCD...

you dont lose you NCD, on a classic policy you dont use your NCB, so in effect you can insure 2 cars, 1 on the classic policy and 1 with your NCB :)

Dave you\'re right, but there was something I read somewhere the other day related to somebody who had their "daily" car on their wife\'s policy and the "toy" on a classic policy with them as the main driver and apparently they did nearly lose out. Anyway I\'m more than happy to be corrected if wrong, like to limit insurance company contact to once a year max!

The FD is also known as a 2.6 due to an agreement with the DVLA. The older FC was the 2.4.

Yeah I think what it is, is that if you dont use your NCB after a certain time (i.e 2 years) then you lose them and go back to 0... my mate had this when he\'d been driving for a few years and built up something like 5NCB but when he sold his car and didnt replace it, he bought another car this year and found that he has to start back at 0NCB....

Scud

FD 92-93
Couldn\'t get classic
25 in 3 weeks..

Main problems I encountered were, not being 30, car not being 15 years old, having an accident last year with a £8000 claim (over £5k being a problem)

in the end went with a different type of insurer who normally cater for track day cars.

regards
