Title: Oil additive ???
Post by: interloper393 on July 12, 2005, 02:01:10 PM
Hey guys just have a wee question for u`s :)

In ma last 4 cars iv added a additive called X-lube into the oil, its a kinda super lubricant, works great, just wondering if its ok to add to ma rx7? and also if any of you have you`d it on yer rex  :wave

On the last 2 cars iv had its reduced the engine temperature quite a bit so was hoping it`ll do the same for the rotary...

There seems to be a bit of a 50:50 view on it lol, a few say it will lower the engine temp but may damage the rotor tips :P

And what would you rather have, lower engine temps and the poss. of a shorter engine life, or add water wetter and normal oil. Questions qestions, but what is a man to do????

if your is that crap you need adittives, buy a better one. Not worth the risk of your engine.

What I was trying to say is some oils (ie morrissons) not that you are using that, cost £2.75 a 5 ltr drum, so the money would be better spent on upgrading the oil.

Have another meeting with someone today who I will ask about X lube.

Dont use addatives, there is no substitue for using quality oil instead.

Most magic additives can do more harm then good.

Cheers

Seen my man today, he said same dont use additives, not much cop in a crap oil, so spend more, or in a good oil could change the balance and end up being worse, upsetting the blends.

It depends.

If you want a proper synthetic then I would highly recommend something from Silkolene or Motul as they contain esters.

If you want to stick with mineral then a petroleum based semi-synthetic is better than a straight mineral oil as it\'s more thermally stable.

Viscosity wise 5w-30, 5w-40 or 10w-30, 10w-40.

You should stick with what Mazda advise and only use MINERAL oil. Do a search on it, it\'s been covered loads of times.

Edited to add: You should stick with what Mazda advise and only use MINERAL oil. Do a search on it, it\'s been covered loads of times.

You should only be using synthetic on cars not using the OMP and running pre-mix.

Semi-Synthetic is a MINERAL oil. It\'s 100% petroleum basestocks, no PAO and no ESTER.

A word of warning really.

Please read my thread concerning the use of synthetics before you do.

I\'m not saying that you can\'t but just understand the "possible" consequences.

If you don\'t need them then semi-synthetics (petroleum based) are a better option, one step up on mineral oils but from the same basestocks.

Ester is great, in fact if you read many of my writings on other car forums then I advocate the use of ester based (blended with pao) synthetics as a must if you are tracking or competing in the car as a must (in my case the likes of Silkolene PRO and Motul 300v are the best that I do as I only sell European Oils) but my recommendations to not stretch to rotaries unless they are being used in extreme circumstances where shear stability is an issue.

No wanting to cause a debate, just hoping that people read the facts about them first.

Cheers
Simon

PS. I\'m at JAE too so feel free to pop in for a chat or whatever.
