Hi guys I am new on here.
I seek your advice.
I am currently thinking about buying an RX7 (2.6TT).
The thing is I am well aware of the rebuild probs, but what sort of milage does this need doing. I am gonna be pretty strapped for cash for about 10 months, but then money will not be a prob. Would I be taking a gamble to buy one of these cars, are they any less reliable than my alternatives such as mitsi GTO TT and supra TT.
What are their performance figures like, compared with the mitsi GTO TT and the supra TT??
Are they moddable cars, or are they likley to break and what boost can they run???
Thanks, any advice very much appreciated,
Graham
These are great cars about 60,000 miles it will need a rebuild give or take a few thousand. I just had mine rebuilt a month ago it had done about 57,000 miles. The RX is very reliable never had any problems until i needed the rebuild.
I cant remember the exact figures but the 92-95 models (250bhp) were about 160 mph and 0 - 60 in just over 5 seconds and the 95-99(280bhp) were 165 mph and 0-60 in just under 5 seconds.
My mate has a Supra and is running about 500bhp built by Leon Green I am not really impresed with them as they are a lot heavier and handel like a boat just my opinion.
They are very modible depends how far you want to go from a exhaust, chip, filter upgrade to a 3 rotor or 4 rotor conversion.
I think stock twin turbos will only allow about 400bhp don\'t hold me to this as I am more into bodystyling than engines. When i had mine rebuilt I had it street ported had 3mm rotor seals and duplex side seals fited.
Standard boost pattern is 10-8-10 psi. The boost they can run depends on what turbos you have fitted single, paralel twins or sequential twins. A lot of people on here run stock twins and have a large amount of mods fitted.
I hope this helps
hillery69 Question: Or any1 else who knows
How much is a typical rebuild???...
about £2500 ish
If you get a early model i.e pre 94 gto it will be the most unreliable dog you have ever bought, the later model ones are ok though performance is not in the same league as the rx7, I guess they\'re just to big and heavy. Supra\'s are nice I don\'t think the interior is all that very reliable though and performance to match that of an rx7 , but it don\'t get you as much fame and draw as much attention as a rx though. Rx\'s do have there problems but not that bad, especially considering the pleasure it gives when you plant your right foot to the floor.
