Title: Can you damage an Ignitor if its not properly earthed?
Post by: antnicuk on July 11, 2005, 09:28:47 PM
When I first started my car up last week after the rebuild it went with no problem at all.   I am using an FD ignitor pack and didnt bolt it down as i hadnt found space for it.    Bolted it down and went to start it today and it doesnt start, theres fuel and i have made sure its not flooded several times,  I am getting a spark at the lead but it just doesnt seem very potent.  Many thanks to Tim for pointing out a few things to check.

Just wondered if any one has any ideas.  Nothing has changed since it started last week except the ignitor was bolted down and obviously now earthed properly.

I dont know but I do know you can overheat them quite easilly, when the 1st gen guys swap over to direct fire they bolt the igniters to a big heat sink with thermal paste (like they use on CPU\'s) to aid with the cooling.

could it be that you cooked it ?

it needs to be,  even doing it on a budget it has cost far too much for me!
