Got the car it is awesome, seems really clean BUT, it has a few little problems.
It has an Apexi power FC, HKS induction, big exhaust rear section, blitz front mount intercooler etc. However it has a couple of faults.
Its fine driving with less than half throttle, but when you get the boost nice and high the boost fluctuates from about 0.8-1.0 bar which seems a little odd makes driving feel weird.
Also a few times when pushing it hard some of the warning lights have come on I think this is to do with the Power FC, at one point I was giving it full throttle and it kind Jolted badly as if it was cutting out and the coolant/overheating light came on although temperature was okay, I think this is power FC. Was this detonation?
Injector duty is high I was getting 91% so I think it needs bigger injectors and fuel pump, next improvements on my list.
Anthony.
check your boost settings, the duty may be to high and it is hitting fuel cut. You are allowed to run up to .25 over the set boost.
Where in the rev range does it fluctuate
It only seems to fluctuate after the second turbo has cut in about 4500-5000 rpm.
I have tried knocking the boost down a bit on the Power FC.
But I will have another go.
Anthony.
There are two numbers for boost control on both primary and secondary boost.
The first number is boost in kg/mm
The second number is duty cycle %.
If boost goes higher than preset target your duty cycle % is to high and needs to be a lower number.
:reallymad
Just started the bloody thing and its misfiring like mad, wont idle etc. we suspect plugs are the problem, we are removng them at the moment. It has some very serious ignition leads so I doubt they are the cause.
Cheers for the advice on the boost I will try to lower it and then test the car.
Anthony.
Probably worth taking it to a specialist to check over the car - //www.rxmotors.co.uk is your closest.
Kevin
RXmotors have got me some new spark plugs to try, should hopefully fix one of the problems (the misfiring) then I have just got to sort the other problems!
First impressions from driving - its an amazing machine - very very quick, steering feels very nice, response is good etc.
With injector duty at 91% the car must be making around 350bhp which is pleasing, its a really beautiful example - once these intial problems are sorted this car will be a gem!
Would post on FDUK, but I am not even recieving posts anymore so I dont know what on earth has happened there.
Anthony.
Hi Anthony :)
What\'s your id on fduk??
I\'ll try to get you back on by kicking the right people ;)

RX7 - Fixed!
Lowered the boost slightly, now making 0.8bar, much better, smoother and you can floor it big time.
Misfire now stopped, looks like a dodgy connection from a lead to a spark plug was the fault, I have put new plugs in and have ordered new leads to go in it although it seems okay right now.
I have ordered bigger primary injectors and an uprated fuel pump.
Spending on this car is now getting near £3000 and I have only driven it once properly!
Its a real beast, definetely going to be the Sterte Garage show car! Driving experience is very impressive.
Awesome to drive once properly fettled I expect it will be making circa 350bhp or more! Will get it dynoed once it is all done.
Anthony.
Glad it is all sorted.
You maybe better off with larger secondaries, but 850 primaries can work well, with the pfc
I may fit bigger secondary\'s if they are needed aswell. We shall see!
Anthony.
Well done mate,
You only need bigger secondary injectors, how is the total 3k already surely not for fuel pump and injectors ?

Okay well here we go;
Apexi AVC-R,
Apexi RSM,
Apexi Fuel pump,
4 new Goodyear f1 tyres,
Alpine 15" type R subwoofer,
Cusco front strut brace,
850CC primary injectors,
Alpine 900w subwoofer,
Alpine MP3 head unit,
Spark plugs,
Magnecor leads.
Uprated radiator - 100% bigger than standard unit.
Maybe not £3000 yet, I must have been getting carried away! but getting on that way.
Mods the car came with;
Twin or triple plate clutch,
Blitz front mount intercooler (6" deep)
HKS RS induction kit,
Enormous exhaust rear section (about 5,1/4 inch exit)
Lowered suspension.
17" Enkei wheels,
Greddy gauges x3,
Apexi Power FC & commander
probably more but I cant remember it all right now!
Anthony.
Hi Anthony,
where did you bought your radiator? @WGT? Did them charge you 500 bugs?
Iwan
Yup.
If they were cheaper elsewhere - please dont tell me.
Anthony.
yep.. try here,,, and here,,,
just kidding. :-)
Any problems with mountig? Are you using stock intercooler (IC)?
We havent got it yet, we have been waiting ages for it!
Should arrive day after tomorrow I am assured.
Should be fun to fit as the car has a massive Blitz front mount intercooler :(
I am already in love with the car, but what a tempremental little bitch she is! Nothing has been easy so far with this car but I am sure once prepared she will blow away my 395bhp R32 GTR!
Anthony.
You shouldn\'t get any problems. I think you will be in trouble using stock IC.
I think, it\'s important to mount a biger radiator using front mounted IC. So you are doing right.
Please keep us up to date with your mount experiense.
Best Wishes
Iwan
PS. I\'m shure, you will be suprised racing RX-7 vs R32...
Cheers the car is running too hot, so to me its essential.
After I have fitted the bigger injectors and fuel pump, radiator, thermostat and water pump (for precaution), I will fit water injection and a custom I/C water spray system. Mapping seems good and is not detonating with optimax and octane booster, it\'s especially running 0.8 - 0.9bar boost.
Cheers, Anthony.
Rad mounting shouldnt be problem as the blitz fmic is mounted well forward. £500 for a wgt rad? sounds quite a lot but as long as it does the job.
I dont think injector duty is a great indicator of power output mate; I\'ve seen significant variations with near identical specs for no apparent reason. I\'d suggest bigger secondary\'s too, you can get 1300s in the stock rail I think.
I presume you\'re talking 350fwhp? I think you will be surpirsied when you hit the rollers what power its making; it\'s amazing how quick these cars feel with \'just\' 280rwhp....
We all told u you\'d love it ;-)
Have fun, drive safe... :)
R.
PS dont measure the quality of your mapping by whether you\'re getting detonation - unless you like rebuilding 13B motors? :rollin
Well it aint going nowhere at the moment as its still running \'slicks\' on the rear ;) Its going for new shoes tomorrow, the new goodyear F1\'s to be precise.
I did ring Geoff up and ask him about a price on a bigger rad but he told me you didnt need one, so I just got the one from pip as I wanted one regardless of what I was told, I am being very cautious of course.
Yes I was talking flywheel horsepower, remember these cars get masses of hp in Japan and Australia on stock twins so it is possible to get 350bhp flywheel with a good map, which I think I have got, but who really knows. Whatever happens I wont be going big turbo, I will leave that to my GTR which I know can take it.
Anthony.
As Rich says, injector duty don\'t tel you much in terms of power.
I need bigeger injectors as I keep hitting 100% on my injectors. I have a 98 auto standard 255bhp blitz back box re-amemiya downpipe, standard cat, blitz induction kit, re-amemiya stock mount intercooler, and apexi power fc & commander. running base map. I know i\'m nowhere near 350.

Agreed about the stock rad (flush it, test it and use water wetter)for the power youre shooting for; I ran fmic, intake, etc, etc and 1bar boost for 18 months as a daily driver without problem (I\'m a bad, bad boy!) with stock rad and never used to get much above 85 degrees when flogging it. Ant ran a similar setup with te apexi fmic and had the same water temps. Big one cant hurt though can it...

Yep, quite a few of the FDUK lot are running around the 290-300RWHP mark i.e. around the 340-360FWHP with stock port motors. The stock twins arent much good for that much more than 300RWHP-ish though I dont think (in spite of some yanks claiming 400-450bhp!) - I think most folks with cars around this power will agree with me - they dont have enough puff hence lots of people running are planning on GT35\'s, TO4\'s etc :-)
R.
Fair enough guys!
Still goes like stink though :D
I will post a direct comparison report between this and the R32 GTR once I have driven the RX7 enough to make a judgement.
First impressions are very good though!
Anthony.
