Title: Hissing.
Post by: Brett on July 03, 2005, 01:36:36 PM
I get a hissing noise in the cabin when under gentle acceleration (dont know what its like WOT as the engine is not run in yet) is this a normal TII noise, or should I be on the look out for a split hose that escaped my attention?

I had the same thing on my Tll found out the main turbo pipe had worked a little loose.
Hope you get it sorted...

Have you got a mechanical boost gauge in the car? If you disconnect the vacuum pipe from the back it makes a sucking/hissing noise when the engine is running... or it may have had a vacuum pipe for one just left under the dash somewhere...

Checked all the pipes in the engine bay, everything is properly sealed (I should bloody well hope so considering I only put it all back together this time last week!) and there are no splits.
No sign of it having had an after market guage fitted either.

sounds like what mine was doing - but i reckon that it was the boost gauge at fault

The plot thickens....
Just been out and had another look at things, every pipe is fine.

Nah, its something other than usual turbo sounds, I\'m wondering if its the BOV noise coming through the K&N?

dunno about FC\'s but my FD will hiss when the turbo is spooling but I\'m not generating pressure, ie if I have my foot down a little, the BOV stays open so the turbo can keep spooling but not pressurise the sytem. This means when I put my foot down theres bollocks all lag.

Only started to hear it when I put my cones in for the stock air box.

i find that if there is a gromet missing or out of place slightly in the firewall the air coming through will hiss as there is quite a lot of air pressure being forced into the engine bay trying to get out.

Well I cant hear the hissing anymore, so unless it comes back I think I\'ll ignore it.  With a history like this cars got it was bound to have a few \'niggles\' running in.
