Title: Badges
Post by: tailz on July 02, 2005, 07:23:39 PM
I recently had some bodywork done to my FD and as a result, I got it back from the garage minus the RX& & Efini badges. I liked it badgeless for a while, but now I would like to pop them back n (I still have them).

What glue (?) would I use to do this, or is there a better way?

Cheers

I\'ve not taken mine off, so is there locating holes on the bodywork or do they just sit wherever you put them on the bodywork?
In either case the best thing to use is some double sided foam tape, officially called VHB (Very High Bond) or UHB (Ultra High Bond) tape.
It is tape with a thickness to it so it can mould a bit round bodywork curves so the badge edges dont lift.
Lay your badge face down on a flat surface, and lay tape (generously overlapping round the edges) over the back completely coverering the back surface. Then with a VERY sharp knife, carefully cut around the profile of the badge from the back so the rear of the badge should be perfectly covered by sticky tape.
Then just line it up and whack it on, ensuring the paint has been cleaned with an alcohol based cleaner beforehand. This will remove the wax or polish so you may need to buff the area afterwards.
As far as getting hold of the tape, if you cant get any in B&Q etc, let me know and i\'ll stick a bit in the post for you, i\'m nice like that.

p.s i\'m a signmaker so i use thestuff all the time, i\'m not a bonding material geek or anything!

Cheers for the reply - yes, there are locating holes in the bodywork, so that makes things somewhat easier I suppose.

I will get my skates on down to B&Q for some of this magical tape you mention. If I can\'t get my hands on any I will give you a shout, but I think I shout be ok.

Thanks again mate,
