ok guys i phoned VOSA up about the rotary emission rules
they told me this --
rotary cars before 1/8/1986 are classed the same as kit cars - as someone has mentioned in a post before "that you dont blind the person behind you in smoke" lol :burnout :bandit
the rule for the cars registered after 1/8/86 up to 31/8/1992 they have to produce -- feel < = 3.5% and hydrocarbons must be <= 1200 ppm.
The cars after 1992 have to produce equal or less than <= 0.2% and hydrocarbons <=200ppm!!
my car falls in the 1/8/86 - 21/8/1992 catagory so the question is that as the previous owner has had the cat removed on my car, now im wondering if im going to be able to make this criteria???? can someone who has tech or practical knowledge in this respect post if they have had trouble with de catting a turbo II and getting it through the emissions?
thanks guys.
Nas
Only if the engine was built b4 August 1986 I\'m afraid. Do you still have an air pump? Do you still have the standard front pipe? With the std front pipe and some air blowing into the sytem you should be ok.
Mine has no cat, never had a problem, till last year, where the man had to try a couple of times to get a good reading...
Or, buy a cat and air pump (I assume you need to put both on???)...
Sean
Depends, you could make your own cat pipe, which should work.
doesnt sound good for me - just about to decat mine
may leave the air pump on :)
I\'ve got an air pump if anyone needs one...
Stu, leave the pump on as we discussed, its not worth the grief come MOT time.
hey cheers for the replies guys
thankgod that my airpump is still on the car! :rollin thinking i might be able to wing it anyway, seems like a an easy target to meet as the minimum requirements are pretty high...
hey brett you still got the emissions results from your recent mot? did you pass it easy?
Think I was 302 on Hydrocarbons, everything else came up zero..... (Thats on the TII) the EGI was a bit of a struggle, that had a full race system, no reburner and no airpump. We had to install our own air bypass into the UIM and **** about with the AFM presets to get the idle emissions down to acceptable levels.
I have no cat, but i have a switch under bonnet that i have to switch over for mot and it just gets throw with that on. with it off no hope
What generation car is that on?
I believe that it became a legal requirement that all new cars from January 1st 1993 had to be fitted with a catalitic converter. Therfore all cars prior to that must have MOT emission levels achievable without a cat. Also the air pump is used to make the cat work correctly, it serves no purpose in reducing emission levels.
Getting ready to be flamed

interesting idea :)
I thought the air pump also blew air into the ports on some models?
yes on the 6 port N/A models. It also puts air into the exhaust ports on overrun to stop backfire in the exhaust.
92 3rd gen was fitted in bedford
