Post by: craig on July 02, 2005, 02:31:18 PM
yet another problem :(
The car is now back to stock well all  bar the air filter and intercooler
anyway   there is no boost on the 2nd turbo  just does not come in at all    could it  be a stuck actuator (if so how could i free it up?) oh and i still have the squeel on the air pump    could this be doing somthing to it ???

Air pump will have nothing to do with the second coming on line. How do you know it\'s not coming on line? What boost are you pulling through the revs? Whats the max boost your hitting, and what boost are you getting at 4500rpm?

max boost on on first turbo is 0.5 bar  then when i get up to  4500  it just sits at 0  the boost   does not rise  when befor  it was kicking you in the back around that mark they both used to go to 0.5  bar  :)  hope that help  im not as you can tell very mechanically Minded

Are you getting a hiss, most likely caused is hose off/split.
Check around the blow of valves (2 off). These are connected to \'Y\' pipe which sits on top of turbos. The y-pipe is connected via joint (which is very common to split/fail) to flat pipe to intercooler.
Second turbo wont kick in if primary boost doesnt reach target boost.

Regards

Adrian
(PS. Replacing plastic pipes and joints with metal and samco is a mod well worth doing !!)

Well, first of all 0.5 bar is not enough! Should be about 0.7 bar - the second won\'t kick in at all with 0.5 bar. Secondly, when you hit 4500 you\'re getting 0 bar - this  not only means your second is not online, but neither is your first at this point!! Sounds like the wastegates being opened completely - if i remember correctly the only single thing that can stop any boost at all is the wastegate opening fully re-directing boost away from the turbos - presumably you fnid yourself with no power at this point? No acceleration as well?

Also, as Adrian says, you may have a boost leak somewhere too. Check for split hoses (In particular rubber Y-pipe connector) and loose and incorrectly done up jubilee clips.
