As you will notice we have posted before and are being extra nervous about buying rx7.
seeing as lots of you want extra performance and are going for this and that upgrade it may ruffle some feathers
We went to our friendly lpg converter who admits to liking rx7\'s but feels nervous about converting one being worried about gas passing through all segments ie whole chamber, His opinion is that if tips are worn then that would be a consequence. Fitting would not be a problem otherwise but we would be guinee pigs as far as he knows. however 30 pence a litre is very attractive as i found out with shogun, would my approximation on mpg of rx7 being similar sound right not being hammered around
Further curiosity I have is whether these teflon oil additives are a good idea or not as they have been fairly useful in the piston engines i have put them in in the past.
alan.cameron67@ntlworld.com for all information that may help prospective buyer
you will not be the first to run LPG in an rx7 ... there has been one for sale recently in fact. (a turbo II) It has been done over in aus too. Not exactly sure what needs to be considered when converting though. I would think finding room for the extra tank would be interesting in a 7 !
Has anybody ever done it to a turbo rx7 ?

Just take the spare wheel out (as on most lpg cars)...
Keep us upto date on what happens ALC as this could be a very good way of saving a fortune !!! :)
gavin...
Look for a forum user called JETED, he has an LPG 2nd gen Rx7.
:wave
thanks for the imput this site is teaching me so much, although basically a simple fella who isn\'t really interested in turning an rx7 into and aeroplane, and some of the cars on here seem to only need wings
EVENTUALLY we will be letting people know because the light is glimmering at the end of the tunnel for our getting one, will now have to find someone in the north west who can do mobile inspections as i suspect the rac won\'t be up to it
THANKS i will see if i can find him and see what he says
oops, i meant to say a 3rd gen

I am really interested in this topic, have already spoken to jeted, he did his conversion on a non turbo as a university project with a non turbo rx7, in conjunction with a company called Avon Autogas . I have spoken to them but they are not sure if it can work on turbo ( timing is critical) there fore the position of the injectors. I have a l.p.g. vehicle of which there is no carbon build-up in the compression chambers, and runs at 75% effecient in comparsion to petrol. Therefore if you are getting 20 m.p.g. for the same cost you can get over 30 m.p.g. So in theory your fd3 should give you about 25 m.p.g. However you will lose about 10%bhp. I also think it would be wise to have an accurate reading of mixture (air/fuel). brian
Have to admit sounds like a great idea for an rx8. Definately interesting reading !
