Title: spinning out
Post by: Matt on July 24, 2003, 10:20:25 AM
How easy will the back end of an rx7 slip out??
i was wondering this because about a month ago i was on my home and it was tipping down with rain and as i was going round a large round about in 2nd, pulled away and i notice the back end come out, i tried to control it then the next thing i knew we did a 360 and crashed into the kerb, which totally messed up my front bumper. I only had the car a month but i noticed the rear tyres are very worn but didnt think to much as i didnt think the car would spin out so easy as i was only going 30 mph!. now every time i go round a round about i am paranoid about the rx spinning out if i go to fast. Someone also told me how ever well u think u know the car u dont it can spin out very easy. How does anyone else find taking corners and round abouts??

Many thanks

Matt

They are generally fairly predictable but when they let go...

Do you still have the tyres on it that came from Japan? These are often rubbish, really hard compound etc. Mine came with Falkans and Tein HA dampers/Apexi springs. It\'s a great drift setup but makes (generally unintentional :D) dougnuts at low speed a sinch!!

Try a tyre change ASAP mate.

yes they cam with the tyres from japan which are bridgestone and they have very little tread. the suspension is eibach and is setup very hard. The front tyres were replaced by the import place as they were to bald but the rear ones just passed the mot. They were replaced with buget tyres. But im getting new rear ones this weekend and was thinking of going for pirelli p6000. or should i go for buget tyres which will last longer

Matt, a good budget tyre is the Toyo T1-S.

Good grip levels, not the best but good. Give good feedback as to what they are doing (working to hard or not).

Hi Matt,

Rx-7\'s are very unforgiving when driven in the wet with low tread on the tyres. You\'ll be suprised the difference it makes having a decent set of tyres on.

do u think theres a high chance of the back end going in the dry with good tyres, if cornering fast?
i think i might do a course and learn to drift.

Hi Matt,

Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago - coming off a roundabout in the wet in 2nd and wheeeee 180.  Scared the crap out of me and put \'dent\' in the front left arch where the wheel contacted it at full lock as I bounced off the kerb. :(

Part of the problem is that in 2nd @ 30MPH you\'re right in the way of good power - I\'ve tended to drive in a lower gear in the wet thatn I do in the dry to avid this!

Since then I\'ve seen how they can be driven in the wet - totally sideways and in control, it\'s very cool to watch.

I\'m going to change my tyres pretty soon as they\'re the original hard jap ones - thinking Toyos or Dunlop SP 9000\'s, depends on how good a price I can get!

Hi Matt ,

l went for Eagle F1\'s and have been real impressed with both Wet and Dry handling and yes l know there are some real good tyres out there but as l use mine whatever the weather l needed a proper all rounder and all the reports l read on this tyre nearly always put it at the top and now l know why.

Hope this helps

p.s. are you bringing it to Billing.

All the best from a happily tyred Clive.

Hi Matt,

I\'ve just changed from P6000s to Toyos and have found the T1s to be noticably more grippy.

The Pirellis were easy to spin up in the dry but the Toyos just grip.

My only complaint about the Toyo\'s is the "balloon-like" appearance.

Cheers,

Steve
