I have been thinking about going Cat free for a while, but don\'t want to upset all the nieghbours!or risk running lean! i know silenced mid pipes are availiable, but can anyone tell me if i go the silenced route it is essential to get an Apexi ecu, in other words with the silencer is the engine less likely to run lean? than if it was straight through pipe,
Cheers Bob
What other mods do you have Bob and which back box ?
There wont be a lot of difference between a silenced or a non-silenced mid pipe for the car running lean or not. The lean issue comes down to any other mods that you are running.
The only difference between the pipes is the noise levels.

You run a big risk of turbo spike if you have done induction and then do your exhaust without fitting a mappable ecu eg.Apexi.
As far as mid-pipe is concerned I have the FEED one keeps the Db level right down but allows the flow. Also does not stop you doing track days if you really want to have the perfect set up then do the same as MAX get the FEED back box as well. :wave
Thanks Guys, so far i have Apexi induction, 5k on my new engine, Guess i best leave as is, Thanks again Bob
I was running stock twins with a straight through exhaust on mine with virtually no silencer on the back. Coming from a stock exhaust to that has made a massive difference to noise levels, it\'s bordering on uncomfortable, not good for motorway journeys.
Needless to say, despite the discomfort and extremely tolerant neighbours I\'ve no plans to change it. Just getting it ported and single turbo on as we speak, heaven only knows what it\'s going to sound like after that :chat :chat

I\'m decatted with a silenced midpipe.
Still loud as ****.
I\'ve been thinking about this too but was worried about failing the emissions test at MOT time. It only just passed last time but I think my turbos were on their way out which would have had an effect. The turbos are getting fixed next week and its getting a new exhaust (Pip said the current one was resticting air flow) at the same time, should I decat or leave as is. I do have a PFC installed.
Sorry if I hijacked the thread Bob thought as its the same theme I\'d be as well asking
Cheers
Barry
Oedipus, do you have an Apexi and Induction?
Cheers Bob
Please hijack Barry, anyone, i think its in all our interests to get rid of the heat from the turbos, especially in this weather,i cant go anywhere without taking my eyes of the stock temp guage!I will keep my old Cat to put back on when mot time comes round again next year, good you have a PFC on already Barry,
Cheers Bob
Indeed mate, I have both.
Out of interest if I were to remove the pre-cat and get a de-cat mid pipe on my UK car would it definitly fail MOT\'s? It\'s completely standard apart from a K+N panel filter in standard box.
cheers

Decat mate, you know you want to!! If you run into problems at MOT time Marc at the garage in wishaw can adjust the idle settings on the pfc so you pass, he did mine for me...
Sounds like a plan to me. Cheers Donato.

Depends on the condition of the main cat! If it is in good health you should be ok, but nothing is set in stone.
