Title: Dodgy tachometer
Post by: Ozz on June 21, 2005, 07:27:04 PM
Hi everyone
I have just recently received my first RX7 :3gears-lh  and am very happy :D . It\'s a 1994 Type R2.  The only problem is the tachometer/rev meter dial.  The needle goes all over the place.  Is this a common problem any ideas how to sort this out.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Many a rex suffers from this, mine did and the only way I was able to sort it was by buying a second hand one and fitting that.
Mine would work 5% fo thtime and the rest it woudl be dancing all over the show.
I tried to look at what could have gone wrong with the old one but I am no electronics expert so stood no chance.

Hi Ozz
I have a spare one laying around but it cost me 60 quid,  so when Ifound it cheap on ebay I snatched it up. I saved it just in case.
Have a hunt around the group a member may have one going cheap if not then I can let this one go to you. I would want your old one back as I will eventually get soemone with more electronic knowledge to check it out to find the problem.

The exchange is really easy.

You first of have to remove the bezel which is done by pulling the dome shape towards you with both hands.
You then have to reach round the back to detach all the wires.
The removal of the clocks is simple and only has 4 screws holding it in place in the bezel.
Once the clocks are out of the bezel you can take the front perpex cover of and the tacho only has three screws holding it in place, you take the full tacho out and put the new one in its place.

Hope tha help mate.

you can always give me a call and I can explain it a little better when you get a tacho.

Cheers

Cheers for the help guys
I haven\'t fitted the conversion chip yet (it\'s still limited to 110mph) and reading in KMH.  Thanks Eddie for info, I\'ll let you know about the tacho as I\'ll try fixing it first. How can I get your number incase all else fails.
