Title: rx7 gen3 fitted with ls1
Post by: tinker-27 on June 20, 2005, 09:26:50 PM
hi im a new member, just putting some pics of my rx, it had a rover 5.0l on throttle bodies but i have now fitted ls1 motor, its fairly stock at the moment . i had plans to tune it but it goes so well i have left alone for now 405 bhp,395 ft lb,  315ft lb @ 1200rpm!!! and it idles perfectly does not over heat ,and sounds fantastic.
it runs stock springs (all ally motor) and 1600rpm@70mph in 6th. I have had a launch kit made to fit both lower and top arms if any body wants any hope you find it interesting cheers craig.

Came back part way from Le Mans in a LS6 engined AC Cobra - 385rwhp in a 800kg body!!!  Got a lot more respect for these engines now. Fecking awesome.

I can imagine this FD is pretty quick too!

the L6 is the V6 is it not ?
Title: ls6
Post by: tinker-27 on June 22, 2005, 07:15:28 PM
the ls6 is a 5.7 v8 same as the ls1 but with different heads and other small differences ,the ls2 is a 6.0l,they also do a 5.3l and a 6.0l iron block(heavy).
they are fitted in monaro, vette, gto, pontiac, trans am,ect. most come with 6 speed boxes,400bhp with no internal mods, and 395ft lb,310 of that over 90% of the rev range, these motors are expected to do 100.000 miles and still pass smog tests so as you can see they are very under strained.

Damn... this is what I want to have in my FD also.

Does that mean you\'re using the 6-speed \'vette box aswell? How does it compare size-wise with the RX7 box? Did you have to use a custom prop?

the price varies depending on what spec you want, exhaust etc give us a call on 07814011479 if you are interested or email me on tinker-27taylor@blueyonder.co.uk,the 6 speedbox fits the tunnel with out to much trouble and we do a custom prop,we use a aftermarket ecu which is stand alone,it has shift light, fan control, high rev recall, etc and soon will have traction  control.cheers craig

What ECU are you using? I plan to use the standard Vette ecu and get something like LS Edit or something like that.

Post by: tinker-27 on June 24, 2005, 11:28:15 PM
i use a m3d unit as it is easy to re map ,never used edit but prefer m3d as it is so vesatile and you can run it maf less cheers craig.

Ahh kicking the MAF sounds good but I think I wont need it in the beginning as I will be happy with the standard speed for a while ;)

Currently Im only evaluating if I can use the Hinson kit with an RHD car as its nearly impossible to find a cheap FD over here in germany so I would buy on in UK.

This sounds an awesome car, nothing like the sound of a V8 Chevy, would this be a more cost effective way of modifiying a rex, considering the cost of a modified Rotary Engine, did you have to cut any metal in the engine bay.
I see you have no strut brace has this caused any problems with handling.
It looks completly at home in the rex engine bay, a perfect factory fit.

no i have not cut any metal from engine bay, it could be converted back .i have been sorting the suspension and have not got round to putting the strut brace on but it will go on soon.I wil be converting a mates soon and i will take pics as i go along ,glad you like it craig

Droooool, drool, drool,

I want that car.  That is a nice conversion.

Do you have any ball park figures for the total cost (including the cost of the origional car)?

£5000 buys you a good 2002> motor ,gearbox, complete pull out, probably the same againto fit ,ecu£600,exhaust £ ??,wiring, prop, mounts, radiator, pas, it all depends on spec really,i am about to start another conversion and i might make a couple of kits as i go along,i might have a ls1 for sale soon anyone interested !! i will try to get to one of the meets and people can have a look cheers craig

Hi Tinker
Real interesting thread, shame its a bonger and not rotary LOL.
Its good to see there are some talented guys out there doing whatever rocks their boat.
Please LOL, the thread looks as if its going to become a trader, this is what it will cost you to buy from me thread, great if its what you are earning some form of living from, but we do have strict trader rules here on the forum, lots of companies above have paid to advertise there services, and if its not policed its unfair to others. LOL
Just doing a job.
I hope the information continues but this thread will be watched.
Regards
Gary
