Title: 10a questions.
Post by: travellinbob on June 16, 2005, 11:15:21 PM
Hello all. Unfortunantly I have been away from old skool technical detail mad friends in oz for way too long now and must ask you all a few things about 10a\'s that I cant remember. Main reaon os that I have to replace the engine in my moggy VERY soon and since i live so far away from anything resembling a drag/race track and also sonce I pay almost 98p a litre for fuel I am going off the whole high horse power train of thought.

1. can they run on unleaded without additive?
2. can you convert them to run a single distributer (i.e. electronic) instead of the conventional twin set up? (have done on a 12a twin dizzy and was fine.)
3. if Tim can run a turbo II box behind a 12a can I possibly run one behind a 10a? Is the bolt pattern different on the bell housing? (mind you it is a top mount starter so does that mean an automatic no to this question?)
4. Does anyone(carl or clive) have the dimensions of an rx4 radiator?
5. can you still buy engine parts for these in the UK?

thanks for your patience all. I realise that alot of these questions could fit right at home in the tech section but thought it was a bit more relevant in this section.

   cheers, michael. :D

Tim\'s is a TII back plate with an EGI flywheel. The TII Starter motor needed a little time getting to know the dremal before it sat comfortably on the flywheel.

Hmmm, so for starters I might not go down the turbo II box, just stick with the stock 4 speed which from recolection is actually not a bad box at all. And after a bit of feed back from international people it is now known that they will run on unleaded. And I can also fit a single distributer. Just got to make sure it goes in the right hole and doesnt spin it backwards!
thanks also to Carl for his valuable time and advice.
    cheers, michael.

all rotaries will run on unleaded ;) ... no valves requiring protection

My 10a is a single dizzy conversion, and by using a 73 RX4 bell housing you can run a twin dizzy block with a later single dizzy style gearbox.  I am using an RX4/5 style 5-speed.  And a big thanks to Carl for locating some mint 10a motor parts...!!!

Oh, and if you are running a 4 speed, then the stock 10a RX3 "clamshell" style G/B has way better ratio\'s than the RX2 4-speed.

Cool thanks for that bit of info. I would love to use a 5 speed in the future as I would kill forhte chance to do a trip to \'the ring\' in the moggy sometime next year. Even though I am crazy syupid busy at the moment with anything and everything I think I need some time out to do some grafting on a dodgy old car for my soul.
   cheers, michael.
