I am having an intermittent boost problem, every so often when i go to overtake /speed up quick etc i get no boost, car just sits at 5000rpm and theres no power, and instead of the usual nice loud exhaust note it sounds like someone blowing a very loud rasberry (best way i can describe it) the boost guage just sits there doing nothng, and sometimes i get a huge backfire, if i back off then try again it usually works fine and i get full boost.
The car has a straight thru pipe on it, no main cat, HKS intake and a power PFC recently mapped at WGT, Engine is also recently rebuilt by RX Motors
It does not happen all the time, just now and again, when its working boost is fine showing 0.8 - 0.5 - 0.8 on the boost guage.
This is really the only problrm with my RX and its annoying the hell out of me.
Any ideas anyone ?
The car also has a lumpy tickover, and when i get no boost im sure it sounds like it is missing, guy i got it off said it had always missed a bit at tickover (driving it normally there is no missfire and car drives great) and even after it was mapped by WGT it was still there.
I changed all the plugs, but not really made any difference, i noticed it has magnecor leads on, heard some people have had problems with these.
Other than that could it be a sticking solenoid or summit, i have checked what i can i.e no hoses off or split.
Right, i had a good read on this site http://rx7.voodoobox.net/ and what this guy is describing is almost exactly the same problem as me, even down to the wierd exhaust note.
He fixed his by replacing the "TURBO CONTROL" solenoid, now is that the thing in the manual that they call "TURBO PRE CONTROL" in the solenoid rack, if so where can i get one, and how easy/impossible is it to replace ?
My first guess would be fuel cut by the ECU - it does this if it\'s running lean. But don\'t take this as gospel, as i am no expert. But that would be my first guess. I don\'t think it is the turbo control solenoid/actuator.
But it would do no harm to give more info. What gears does this occur in? Wide open throttle, or partial throttle. Or either!?
Right i think i have fixed it, pulled all the intake hoses off and found the little brown BOV type thing was very loose, took it right off and replaced the bit of hose and put on new clips to hold it on nice and tight.
This seems to have cured all my problems, car now idles smoothly, no back fires on over run and boost is working correctly, even from cold when the car was right lumpy has been cured.
Cant believe one loose hose would have caused all my headaches.
Interesting - was it the really small diameter hose by any chance. That would make sense.
No it was the 1" one, was very loose and badly cracked, there was dirty/oily residue all around it, it was obvious it was leaking once you could get in and have a good look at it.
Oh right. Ok, makes sense too. I\'m treating it all like a learning experience myself - as i have something similar, but i don\'t think it\'s that. Occassionally, in 5th gear at WOT, it will drop to zero psi/bar boost. But i suspect (Maybe wrongly!) that\'s its the ecu cutting things off there.
I am still amazed it was so simple a cure for so many problems, the car PURRRRRSSSS now on tickover, where before it was lumpy and missing, and i can really feel it pulling now, when before i could not.
Even my other half noticed the change in sound/performance
I\'m happy
Hope you get yours sorted as easily
