Title: Learning how to drive a RX7 courses?
Post by: scooby_si on July 23, 2003, 01:12:44 PM
Just wondered as it\'s probably the biggest thing that would put me off getting a RX7. ie i\'ve been driving an impreza for a few years & while it\'s great & stuck to the road in the wet twisties etc it doesn\'t exactly assist my driver developement & so i\'d be looking for sumin track, airfield or wotever related where i can learn limits of a RX7 before i killed myself ;)
I\'ve seen Bob Rawles site & his fine reputation etc but wondering if there are any other suggestions for good track day courses etc to learn the limits of rear wheel drive if i get a rotary bad boy? :D

You could try doing a search for advanced driving techniques or just get used to the car on the local country roads before giving it a thunmping on the track with an experienced instructor.  Sure they will be able to help more.

Not tried any courses/instructors in your area but imagine it would be fun putting an rx through its paces:)

One of the first things to do is go down to the local WH Smith and get yourself a copy of Road Craft. This is a good read and teaches/reminds you things to look out for.

As for training courses, you need to speak to people like Don Palmer (private) and Ed Moore (Motorsport Driver) they are just two people that spring to mind that will teach you about driving. Ed is more for trackdays and less for the road, where as Don will teach road skills.

I\'m a member of the institute of advanced motorists and could give you the details of the contact for your area?

It doesn\'t teach you how to drive a rear wheel drive cars fast (or sideyways) :( but it will open your eyes a bit and could help bring down your insurance if you pass the test :D.

Basically it teaches you whats in the roadcraft book on the road.
