I am pleased to say that Lisa and myself are now the proud owners of a super rare RX-4 Coupe after wanting one of these from when they were new.
Whilst working in a Mazda garage as a 15 year old boy l used to sit in these and think "Wow it\'s like an aeroplane" this is because of the way the Dashboard wraps around and the overhead console in the roof.
It\'s been strange for me to now discover in the sales brochure that came with the car that Mazda themselves describe it as having,
"The form and function of an aircraft cockpit radiate from the pilots position in carefully planned orchestration"
I am pleased to say the car is 100% complete with a non ripped interior and is pretty rust free top and bottom after being stored for some 20 years in dry storage, with just 32,000 miles and one Mazda dealer owner, who owned 5 dealerships and was 70 years old when he brought it and it even still has the plastic on the rear seats and side panels.
When it was put into storage they filled the engine completely so it filled the rotor housing\'s with a special storage oil from Mazda so l am hoping that we will have an engine that will fire up and be O/K even after all these years !
Whilst not totally pristine it should be good enough to bring to JAE providing we get it running and an MOT where l believe people who are Rotary fans and have never seen one of these will be staggered at the way Mazda really wanted to let the world know that this IS a Rotary powered car by the rotors etc dotted around the car just like they have with the RX-8
As far as we know there is not at at the moment an RX-4 on the road in the UK and or maybe Europe so this is a great find for not only myself but also MRC
Thanks go to Carl for coming with me to collect it and the loan of his car and trailer to get it home from Bristol.

The man who was kind enough to sell it to us put an R100 in the bin 5 years ago so thats why l say "saved"
Far to many times cars like this have gone to the scrapper due to people wanting room etc , but we got this one:)

crushing.
WOW, oh my goddness!!! That is awesome. I cant tell you how jealous I am. That is such an awesome find. Very impressed. How did I know that Mr Hayward would have been involved in this somewhere:D He is the original Mr old skool.
But PLEASE dont post anymore stories about R100\'s being scrapped. Put me right off me tea and will probably have to see a counciler.
cheers, and all the luck in the world with it.
michael.
Oooooooh, that\'s nice :D
Can I have it please? :D :D :D
Do you have any interior pics Clive?

Looks every much as good as you described it. Look forward to seeing it at a show in the near future.

Clive,
Let me know if you need any interior trim, I\'ve got loads of stuff which isn\'t going to go back into mine!
So, we\'ve got a race on... who will get their RX-4 on the road first.

Mine\'s ready for painting, next week maybe...
What are u planning for yours Ray? and what colour will ir be? :D

Wow that is 1 tidy 4, so pleased for you\'s. Its even better when you have a history to go with it :D
Jase
You not joining the race Carl? I know of one coming together in Swindon aswell. That would be 4 4\'s on the grid.

Keeping it red.
Hopefully I\'ll get some track days in this year. If the brakes and handling (and finances!) are OK, it might get to do some competition work next year...not sure which yet race or single venue rallying.
excellent and well done on this find! i cant believe how well it came up after just one wash :cool lol its like its had a total respray! im really going to look forward to seeing this motor at this years JAE..

You have an RX4 aswell
any pic\'s?
Oh YEsssss!!
Great find, Clive.
I hope you are you going to keep it standard? That car looks fantastic.
So, at RS3 we should be able to muster:
RX-2
RX-3
RX-4
RX-5 (that Luce from brooklands)
RX-7
RX-8
Now all we need is an RX01 !!!! :D :D
or an R100 would do nicely instead.

:D
But of course Martin, apart from the GT42 and the 9" Ford rear end that is ;) !
Only joking :rollin
Apart from Lisa wanting it yellow ( I\'m not joking) eventualy and a set of crosswires it will remain stock.
Seriously with this car I hope it will stay within the club as a standard car for many many years to come after all we have a responsibility to look after cars like this to be able to show Mazda\'s Heritage via the Club.
After all I didn\'t come up with the name Mazdarotaryclub for nothing !
That white paint looks quite tidy. I hope you dont have to repaint it anytime soon.
Good work Clive, interested to hear if the engine is ok.
Good score!
Fantastic, I hope you keep it standard, we need more classic rotarys on British roads, for the public to see that Mazda used rotarys in sporty saloon/ coupe & estates cars and not just RX-7s.
+ the rotary pick-up I want one
Hope to see your car soon
Regards Derek RX-5
Makes me wish I still had my old RX-4.
