i don\'t yet have a rex but thought that it might be a good plan to get some background knowledge on tuning first so as not to knacker it by putting tuning parts onto it that might make it run poorly. Sorry if any of these questions sound stupid but im fairly new to rotary engines!
will adding a straight through (de-cat) exhaust and induction kit create idiling problems or boost spikes?
what is the most power that can be gained running standard turbos?
what is the most power that could realistically be got with standard diff, gearbox, clutch etc..?
cheers in advance
Ant
1. Straight through exhaust, decat and induction kit is about the most you can do without upgrading the fuel pump, injectors and ecu (As standard the injectors run very close to 100% duty, and the fuel pump is designed to pump the fuel required by the standard setup. The ecu will be required to get the fuel pumped correctly without running lean). It can with this setup run boost spikes occasionally. Best off not doing a decat.
2. Search for Warthog, and check out his sig! round the 400bhp mark i believe, but as i said, do as i say, and you\'ll find the answer!
3. Clutch is the first weak point. The usual weak point is the clutch, which can\'t handle much more power than standard if i remember correctly (I can vouch for that!). I believe the gearbox can handle quite a reasonable amount of power, but no idea of the figure. If you\'re gonna do a lot of 1/4 drags, then the diff can be a bit of a weak point - a few people on this site have cracked their diffs.
cheers mate i will check it out.
Ant - I had a straight through system, decat, induction kit along with a street port and it ran lean so bigger injectors and fuel pump were needed. Just be prepared to pay for this if your getting those mods done.
Rich :)
It runs lean because it gets more air in through the induction kit, and the turbos spool up much easier due to a freer flowing exhaust - you get a lot more air into the engine, which the pump/injectors/ecu can\'t cope with.
Fuel pump, injectors and ecu are going to be my next mod, following by a FMIC.
cheers guys. Sorry to be thick but what exactly is a street port? a larger throttle body?
The \'ports\' are where the air/fuel mixture gets inducted into the actual rotor housings - a street port means these ports are enlarged slightly for more efficient induction of the air/fuel mixture, thus giving improved performance, but not affecting driveability adversely.
