Title: Apexi Power FC into an FC
Post by: Brett on June 14, 2005, 09:21:43 AM
I\'ve heard that the PFC can be modified to fit an FC3S, is this true?  Has anybody on here done it?

oohh was discussing this in the pub last night - you can put the FD apexi into the FC - you just need a wiring harness adaptor

i questioned the FD twin turbo - and the simple answer was - the apexi runs a single doesnt it

so YES - they will fit

It may work fitting an fd power fc to an fc3s car but will it be safe?
Will the timing on a fd ecu be the same as an fc ? don\'t think so fd power fc has a few things in it that totally does not comply with an fc.
Not sayingf can\'t work but you have to really know what your doing once it\'s installed.
Alot less bother to just buy the power fc for the fc3s?

Either if you have contacts in Japan, or from greenline performance.

Ok, so how not cheap are the FC3S specific ones then?  I also presume they can have a commander etc?  One more thing, are they a plug and pray device? Ie do they have the correct loom to simply plug straight in?

Thanks guys!  :god

Panspeed, Rmagic and RE-Amemiya sell there own modified Apexi FC for the S5 only.No exact pricing, but in the region of 900 pounds. The FD apexi will not run the S4/S5, due to the different ignition control/pickup systems, and can only be reconfigured from the factory.

The pick up method is only slightly different,  but they both do the same job, which is to send a pulse signal to the ecu telling it what position the crank is in.   It cant be that different!   can it?

At the end of the day, the ecu only NEEDS to read, TPS, air/water temp, map sensor/boost and crank position.  It then decides on the correct ignition timing and injector pulse.  The engines them selves are basically the same...

The main problem is that Mazda, in their infinite wisdom,  made all the plugs different so you cant plug an fd loom into the engine sensors/injectors although they all do the same thing in both cars and are in basically the same places.

Its got to be worth a try..........

What are the pick up points for the REW CAS(s)? 13bt is 24 teeth on one large cog with another two teeth on a smaller cog, with two seperate pickups. The FD pick up system is fairly different, using a disc on the shaft pulley with protuding tabs and tow pickups.
Agreed, anything is possible...hence companies providing the service, but they are not compatable without changing the configuration.

as was said earlier it is just a signal to the ecu. the signals are the same. I know off an fd that is running a fc front cover therefore it is running the fc pick up. No issues. Iam running fc pick up and fd ecu no issues. the signals are the same judt the way they are generated is different. look at wiring diagrams for microturd, haltech and motec they show you which wires to pick up from. on the motec it also tells you the inputs for the ecu they are the same if i rember right.

Hehe, I\'ve started a monster here.

I\'ve looked at the RE:A ecu\'s, but they all seem to be predetermined maps, and I\'ve no idea how mappable, if at all, they are.

your best bet is to use what many people on here already use, have results and can be tuned, so basically the apexi,  either FC specific or have a go and use an FD one with a modified loom, or use what most 2nd gen people use and go for a microtec,  people are getting good results with both.  Sadgoth has a microtec for a TII at a very good price.  I have heard people say these are a little more user friendly for the novice than the apexi.
