Title: young driver, insurance ideas anyone?
Post by: dandan on June 13, 2005, 08:03:23 PM
Ok,
I have just scraped enough money together to buy my first Rx, probably going to be a 92-94 import, not modded if possible and worth about £5000
The major problem is I\'m 23 and although i have six years driving experience, i never had my own insurance so i have no no claims! I have no accidents and only 3 speeding points that are over 3 years old.
the car will be 6000 limited mileage and garaged, can anyone point me in a cheap direction?
elephant comes up at £1400, can it be beat?

I was gonna say try Elephant.... they did me the best deal I could find a few of years back when I was in your situation.

The 10 month bonus accelerator is really worth considering.

If that\'s fully comp it sounds pretty good to me, considering your details.

Adrian Flux don\'t seem to like young or no NCB drivers... they quoted me £2000 on a RX7... 4 years NCB.. but bad history.

right then,
in answer to my own question really, i think i will go for Elephant, i just added my 25yr old brother with good driving history to the policy, it is now £915 fully comp!
now, i have to find a way to stop him from driving it...

When I got my quote from Elephant they asked me about mods... and when I had my old CRX that was modded they insured no probs. :s

regarding mods they seem to be one of them companys where it depends who you get on the phone, otherwise they aint bad at all :)

I was insured with them with body kit, exhaust, alloys, ecu, filters (dont say the word induction!), and they were about to insure me with suspension too but then the renewal came through the door, shocking to say the least

A good thing to do with Elephant is get a quote online, but use the neighbours house number. They will email you a reference code for this quote.... then phone them for a quote using your own address.. if the online quote was cheaper tell them and give them the ref code they emailed you... they really have no choice but to give you the cheaper price as the only difference in the details is the address, and if its next door they can\'t really say its any different.

This worked for me on my last renewal, saved me about £140 :)

they never told me until I phoned up, i\'d had two cars with them with inductions - said they neevr will and never had insured any engine mods - anything else is fine oddly enough
