Right I think I may need some help here!
We managed to get the Microtech installed over the weekend finally, ended up using the LT10s with the uprated ignitors and coils. One of the injector seals started leaking so had to find a suitable replacement, fine, did that.
Got everything done HOORAY! (or so I thought)
Started the car, very lumpy, took it for a short run to see if it would clear itself, didn\'t, wouldn\'t hold an idle and eventually lost power (felt like it was running on one rotor  ) and stalled. Not sure what is wrong, towed it back to a mate\'s garage and walked away in disgust!
What has gone wrong? Have I wrecked the engine? I really hope not as it has only done 7000 since it was rebuilt! I really can\'t afford another engine right now.
Sounds like the timing is all over the place...
sounds like fouled plugs ? was it running stupidly rich ?
erm, well rich doesn\'t even come close to what it was running! I don\'t think there was any air in the air/fuel mix!
I know I\'ll need to clean the plugs and unflood the thing, but I am not sure what else to do to get it running properly! I\'m not sure what to do about the timing if its out and if not the basemap on the Microtech is not running right!
I don\'t see why it should run correctly on the base map ? ... I mean its not like its designed for the car/engine like an apexi PFC.
Or has someone given you a starting point ?
have you tried the ecu forums on //www.rx7club.com .. they have a microtech section, someone might get you started with a map file from another car ? (i\'m guessing now :) )
It comes with the FC basemap pre-installed (only thing I can think is that with the 1/2 bridge the base map is struggling - but the stock ecu could cope so can\'t see why it would be a problem for an aftermarket unit)
I would deffo check the spark strength and timing, if either is bad then it will casue your flooding and fouling. Are you running with or without the AFM?
The AFM is still in place but my understanding is that the mazda unit doesn\'t work with the microtech? How does the microtech guage airflow?
If the Microtech is not using it (most after market ECU\'s bypass the AFM) then its getting its data from the MAP sensor. Maybe your MAP is playing up? If the ECU is getting readings of loads of air when its got V little it will be shovelling in the old fuel, hence the very rich running?
hmmmm, I\'ll have to check the sensors that I\'ve wired in and see which ones are connected and which aren\'t. I don\'t remember connecting anything on the AM or MAP sensor side! :o oooops!
I\'m pretty certain that if its not using the AFM then it has to use a MAP, otherwise the ECU can\'t tell if its getting air or not! Your may find that as there was no signal the ecu has gone into a failsafe mode.
Microtech has an onboard map sensor, if you\'ve not already done so you need to connect the nipple on the side of the ecu to a nipple on the inlet plenum. You can remove the Mazda AFM, its not needed anymore and will give unrestricted air flow to the turbo. :)
AFM must be removed. There is a very simple explanation to this. The injectors are fired using a negative earth system, meaning that the injector is open when there is no voltage. The ecu sends the electronic pulse to the injectors, thus closing them.
1. Check the continuety of the injectors at the ecu end of the loom. The yellow coloured wires are the primaries, which should read high impendance (10-14ohms) The orange wires are the secondaries. If these are 1000cc, they will read low impendance( about 2ohms)
The readings don\'t matter at this point, as long as you are getting a reading through the injectors at the ecu.
This will point to either a dodgy injector connector, or improper loom connection. I am as certain as i can be(from where i am!!) that this is your problem.
It is still light, so i will give you a shout just now.
John
Ditch the AFM make sure there is a pressure line to the nipple on the ECU. Then go to the error logs and make sure you\'ve no faults showing. Theres two screens for error checks make sure you check both.If the worst happens i can give you Tims email address at microtech hes pretty helpfull and should be able to check what map your running online, he checked mine that way asked me to access certain screens then read the codes off.Have you run through test mode to make sure all injectors and coils are working. On my cosmo the wire colours were reversed in the stock CAS wiring either side of the plug about 3" away from the CAS took about 4 hours to track it down
Regards Kevin
check crank wiring this can be out quite easily the wire colours don\'t always match up. But since you have had it running it shouldn\'t be that. the map sensor not being plugged in would do this as it would be reading atmosphere pressure and chucking truck loads off fuel in when the engine is in vacum and then not enough if you can make it into boost.
Mark, Just mirroring everything thats been said here.
The Microtech(most standalones) run using manifold pressure(MAP). The standard MAF sensor will not work and will bugger things up.
If this gets incorrect readings, meaning Air pressure or vaccum then everything, idle, running, revs etc will be all over the place.
Get this sorted first.
You will also need to get it connected to a Laptop with the correct software as you most likely need to make corrections as you are running a heavy Bridge. This will vary your vaccum pressures quite a bit.
Good Luck
Right, thanks for the help guys!
Can\'t do much till the weekend, thanks for the responses, from what I\'m reading and a conversation with John, I\'m guessing that a combination of still having the AFM in place (although no longer connected), possibly having the vacuum hose attached to not the most suitable point and maybe having a dodgy electrical connection in the injector circuitry. Well that give me a lot of checking for the weekend!
Hows it going mate? Did you get it sorted?
not sorted yet didn\'t have much time at the w/end, the vacuum hose is attached in the right place, just need to get the software installed on the laptop then I can see what\'s going on properly!
