Title: Air-con recharging - how often?
Post by: Denny on June 13, 2005, 12:34:33 AM
Title pretty much says it all...  how often would you expect to recharge the air-con on a third gen RX-7?

Answers in months or miles both accepted, with full recognition of the fact that they\'re only rough estimates, as air-con usage will obviously vary quite wildly between different drivers...

Should be years more than months. Check the sight glass in the engine bay.

If you can see liquid then your good, if you can see small bubbles, your still good. If however you cannot see any fluid or have big bubbles, then its time to re-charge.

There\'s a sight glass?  :)

Okay, whereabouts is that?  (front/rear, driver/passenger side?

Thanks!

Hi! Do most garages offer a recharge service, or are there specialist companies/garages that one must visit?  If so, can anyone recommend a recharge station near Kew/Richmond in Surrey?

Sight Glass is front (under bonnet) right hand side next to light if memory serves correctly.  Where would you get yours recharged?

If I recall correctly.. You will need to go to a specialist to get your air con recharged.
I took an old motor to a specialist a few years back and he put in a cheap gas to test for leaks (nitrogen maybe????) and dicovered there was a hole in the piping system somewhere and you could hear a hissing as the gas escaped from the leak.
It would of cost a fortune to get the leak located, repaired and re-gassed so I didn\'t bother.

The test gassing cost me about £25 if I remember rightly.

Cheers mate.  I havent used my air-con, due to it not being gassed, for over a year now, so I think a complete check up and refill is called for.   I just found these guys:

If anyone can tell me of anyone they trust who are nearer to me (Chiswick to Kingston), Id be very grateful.
