Ok here goes....i\'ve imported a 1993 Efini and i\'m having troubles. I know there have been a couple of threads about some of these issues but would appreciate if someone could simplify and expand on the following problems....
1. Idle is erratic - it will not go below 1500rpm and when stationary or in neutral it continuously "pulses" between 1500rpm and 1800rpm - though driving is fine.....
2. The turbos don\'t seem to spool properly...seriously down on power but again seems to drive ok. I\'ve read everywhere that its probably something to do with the vaccum pipes...but i\'ve printed off a diagram and theres millions!!!! are there a few that split or come off more than others - i dont know where to start!
:( the boost gauge never rises above 0.5 and occasionally drops to 0.3 suddenly......
You guys know your stuff....please help a newbie!!!
ONE MORE THING....my seatbelt light will not go out and its playing havoc with the windows! can i just remove a fuse or something? CHEERS!!!!
Hi, maybe you may get a better responce from actually introducing yourself properly.
I am 100% positive you have been lurking here for a very long time before posting only when in trouble!
Sorry can\'t help with your problem, maybe try with the people you bought it from!
rgds
As far as the idle goes you may need to reset the ECU, disconnect the battery and then press the brake pedal for approx 20 secs, then reconnect battery and start up.
Otherwise you may require a decent mapping session to sort the motor out buddy, i have a single turbo rx so cant comment on the twin turbo issue sorry :(
Gurj:)
ps - welcome to the MRC forum
Trex - i\'ve only had the car a week - been scouting the forums so yeah been on here a while - so whats the prob? sorry i didn\'t come and personally introduce myself!
thanks for the advice prb - running a little low on cash so any quick remedies help! :)
I meant GSB sorry dude!
Theres no prob with you using the forum matey,
Just usually when we get a new member they introduce themselves alittle so we know who they are thats all dude :)
This forum is easily one of the most laid back forums there is and also possibly the most friendly one so please enjoy :)
If the quick fix doesn\'t work then you might have to go see one of your local rotary experts just to see what the problem is, hopefully nothing too bad
Gurj
Sounds like you\'ve got a loose vac hose somewhere. All symptoms would point to that.
Pulsing Idle, lack of boost, no decent pressure.
No big deal.
As for the light, dunno about that sorry mate.
Trex, chill man. Many peoples first post is in need of help. Surely thats why we are all here?
Cheers guys! Appreciate that i should have said hi first at least, so hey everyone at the MRC! :D
With the loose vac hose in mind - are there any in particular that usually split or pop off? Gonna give it the once over again today but if not i\'ll just take it to someone to have a look at. i\'m in the guildford area - does anyone know of a decent specialist without travelling across the galaxy?
Sorry, maybe I was brought up differently...
Anyway if you bought a car less than a week and it has these problems.. what would you do?
rgds
dude...if you took offence then why bother replying? I posted on the mazda rotary club because i had a look back through some of the posts with problems and you guys seem to know everything about the rotary engine, if i make some friends along the way then great, but don\'t be upset because i didn\'t come and shake your hand.
I appreciate every bit of help people can give me but so far you havent. As for taking the car back - as i said in the first post which you took great offence to - it is an import so thats out of the question.
I\'m nt into slanging matches so i apologise for not introducing myself - my name is Matt, love me Jap cars but this is my first RX - kinda wishing i hadn\'t bought it but hopefully i\'ll change my mind. :(
...seatbelt light and windows...
That\'s a faulty CPU box. Sometimes called an F100, or ECU 2. It\'s located under the dash on the drivers side by the fuses and controls the seatbelt light, buzzer, hazzards, to name a few things. When it goes faulty you get the constant flashing of the seatbelt light, and if you try to open your windows, they move in time with the flashes. Seems to happen most on 93/94 cars, and a few guys on here have suffered with it.
Get the importer you bought the car from to replace it, or if it was a private sale, one of the tuners can supply you one for around £25. Mine came from Tim (RX Motors).
Definitly sounds like a vacuum issue. Just in case (as it\'s quite a common issue), check the map sensor\'s connected. It\'s a small black plastic sensor the size of a matchbox bolted to the bulkhead.. It\'s right behind the throttle body.
Excellent - thanks for that weasle, i\'ll get onto it today! :D
Thanks fro - i\'ll check that now! :D
I would say the boost problem sounds like a split hose in the system somewhere - not one of the vacuum hoses, but one of the hoses going to, or from the intercooler.
The y-piece rubber coupler can split.
If none of those are the case, then i would guess that exaust is being diverted from the primary turbo before it should be - therefore keeping the boost down. The turbo pre control actuator/solenoid is responsible for directing exhaust from the primary turbo to the secondary turbo. Alternatively, some of the boost could be being let out somewhere (similar to the idea of the leak somewhere in the pipework) - this could be due to the Air By-Pass Valve. There are several areas to try! Look here for a more difinitive answer: http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/TurboTroubleshooting.htm
Alternatively, you could have something similar to what i had - i wasn\'t getting any more than 0.5 bar because the vacuum lines were \'wired up\' incorrectly. But I couldn\'t figure them out, so took it to Pip at WGT who sorted it within 2 hours!
Cheers dude - sounds like i\'m gonna take it somewhere and spend money... :(
Why did they make the engine so complicated........?
If you\'re in need of an RX friendly garage theres a place called Rx Heaven in Southwater near Horsham.
Check you have no splits in the pipes coming from Turbo to intercooler or intercooler to throttle body.

I think my first post was to ask for help. But then again I did grow up on a council estate :rollin
Cheers

P.S. this is not a personal dig at you TRex, at all! Just wanted to point out that most people find this forum through the need for assistance.

They made it so complicated so you would have to take it to someone to get it fixed! ;)
Hello and welcome to the club mate. The MRC welcomes you to post whtever you like when ever you like WITHIN REASON or ill moderate your ass! ;)
If you need any further help please dont hesitate to post, (after doing a search to see if its already been posted before ;) )
It does sound like a vacuum line, if you are not confident enough in your own abilities then it might be best to get someone to have a look at it, as it could end up costing you more in the long run
good luck with it mate
Cheers
Donato
Oh...i tell u what - theres nothing worse than a moderated arse!
Of course i\'ll play nice - i just wasn\'t welcomed as heartily as i expected but loads of people have more than made up for it!
Thanks for everything guys! :cool
Maybe the forum should adopt a "feedback rating" system, like eBay use. Where by you get positive feedback for answering technical posts and negative feeback for flaming. Or perhaps I just have far too much time on my hands. :rollin
Not a good name to have then: tony blair!! You\'ll get a negative rating straight away! I don\'t like the way poll tax has gone up!! :rollin :rollin :rollin

Didn\'t we do away with the poll tax back in the tory days? Or perhaps I re-introduced it as a stealth tax :rollin
poll tax, council tax, tax on petrol, stealth tax - you lot tax everything - what difference does it make which one i state!!? :p
How did my post turn into a political debate?! :D
You kids....;)
Well if more people like me voted Lib Dem instead of Labour I think our stupid tax system would be in a better state.
Anyway... I think we\'ve hi-jacked this thread enough already. What was the topic again? :rollin
My knackered rex....i\'ve taken it down the road to a guy who knows his jap cars - completely forgot about him! Only hope he doesn\'t pull me pants down when i get the invoice....:(
To be honest, unless he really knows his jap cars (particularly RX-7\'s) then he\'ll be doing a lot of head scratching - you might be lucky: he might luck upon the problem himself. But overall, i would say you\'d be better off with someone he really is familiar with their goings on.
Yeah - but i\'m keeping my fingers crossed - he\'s reliable and likes cash...sounds like i\'m bodging it but i\'m on a real tight budget! If not i\'ll take it to RX heaven as suggested earlier!
Thanks!:D
I\'ve just thought of one test you could try: take off one of the pipes to the pressure tank - if you don\'t hear any pressurized air coming out, then you have a problem there for starters - but if you do, then at least you know that\'s being pressurized correctly. It\'s a quick simple test you can easily make.
Cheers dude - can you explain a bit more about the pressure tank as i don\'t know what i\'m looking for...:(
Hey mate
Best of luck with your prob. I really do think it\'s worth taking it to a specialist. I took mine all over the place as mine never went over 0.5 bar. Turned out there were two pins that hadn\'t been put back in the rebuild hanging out (restrictor pins or somminc) and a hose had split connecting to the turbos - both were engine out jobs..
I bought a decat, new ecu and had a few trips back and forth to people who know jap cars - reworx solved it first time :)
ooh & I found I had 99 spec turbos woooooo :D
Last thing i want is the engine out - really dont have the spends for that! :(
Christ..............come on people i need some reasons as to why i should keep her....something to remind me its all worth it....:D
wasn\'t that much at all mate - what was expensive was taking it to the wrong people hehe
Pressure tank is a black plastic bos about 4" by 2", odd shape, and visible when bonnet is open.
Basically, check out the piccy! :D
cheers nik i\'l check that out tomoro! U guys are too good to me! ;)
Daemon -
Check the easier stuff first to see if its something minor, once all those have been checked then start to look for the bigger possible faults.

Both the one on the black car and Faheem\'s one has gone in the same week. Very strange, just hope Tim doesn\'t run out, lol.
Ta,
Paul:)
Not being unfriendly, those that know me on here personally, can tell I\'m far from.. (with a tenner of course)
I still stand by my advise...
If I JUST bought a car from an importer/someone(as you said) and it has problems... I would not touch a thing, it would go straight back to inquire what the hells wrong as it could be bigger than you think.
Or you can take all the super friendly advise here and take a chance and muck about yourself..
I know what I would do....
\'Good luck with it....\' :)
you want a reason to keep the car......
get it running nice take it out for a spin...
2nd gear... 2500rpm floor it throught second and third.... if you stop grinning within 12 hours then sell the car... if you dont stop grinning you can make cheques payable to matt lemmy for my consultaion fee...
welcome to MRC by the way... dont worry about grumpy chops... can be difficult to get the right tone when typing... I am sure he was meaning it sarchastically.... wernt you WEREN\'T YOU!!!!!
have fun.... dont give up just yet... if it has come from japan it will have been on a boat for three months and and nothing likes being sat around.... though if you did get it from a dealer... then they should have made sure it was running before you taking delivery of it.... if you are not happy with their service we have a name and shame thread somewhere....
OK....had all the vaccuum hoses checked out today - its not those. Going to take it to SAS in aldershot for an hour on their diagnostics machine and take it from there....:(
sheesh what happened on this thread - all seemed to turn a bit bitchy for a while !!
got my eyes on all of you and warming up my banning stick ( yeah i know - gonna get all sorts of replies to that )
and out of interest - is it just me or does this thread only seem to put 5 replies to a page ?? - its 9 pages according to my pc - all other threads are the same
oh well eh
Take care
Stu
Stu,
There are only 3 pages dude ???
\'4\'.... :p
laptop shows it as 4 pages
pc showed it as 9
oh well eh - an other one of lifes misteries that will never be solved - on the same lines of why is there frosted glass in the toilets on aircraft ??
The Frosted glass is used so you won\'t see the camera\'s behind them... :cool

Hi
It depends on which Navigator you are using. If i use Internet Explorer 6 then i seem to get more pages per thread but if i use Mozilla it sometimes fits all on one very long page! Hope this helps your confusion.
Jessi
So whats the deal with your car mate? Where in Surrey are you? if your going to Aldershot then I dont think your too far from me. 2 heads are better than one! come over if you need an extra head, pair of hands and a propper running RX7 to compair yours against.
Kieron
Kieron u legend - cheers fella! I\'m only down the A3 in godalming mate, what u doing saturday? ;)
Should be free late afternoon, about 2 onwards but I\'m working in Selsea so not 100% sure
P.M me your mob number and I\'ll txt you when I\'ve finished.
Have you seen me about in Godalming? usually go there alot for a meal + drink in the evening.
Do u know what mate...i think i have seen you....u drive up twycross road (off that new mini roundabout)!
my mobile is 07971524844......again mate, any help would be much appreciated!
Regards
Matt
Could well be mate, Just got back from work, hope its not too late for you.
Car is going into SAS today....wish me luck! :(
Should have taken it to RX-Heaven!
Hope SAS can sort it out for you without breaking the bank.
Good Evening all!!! Right just to keep you all up to date, Ike over at SAS put some kind of gas through the system to check for leaks, and hey presto - a big leak coming from the inlet manifold gasket! Had that replaced yesterday and the car seemed to be running fine.
So.....bearing that in mind....with no modifications...what boost should the car be running? I\'m currently showing 0.5 on full throttle.
Secondly....got home about 2 hours ago and the car just dumped coolant all over the floor...just checked it out now the car is cooled off, and the problem is that the little pipe that connects to the coolant reservoir has sheared off inside its own connecting pipe! AARGH!!! Gonna need a new reservoir - anybody breaking or know where to go to get one?
Your help is much appreciated again guys!!!
I think that the stock boost is .7
i thought it was supposed to be more than 0.5 - ****e. Well....at least it runs now.
Hello mate. Blimey you are having a lot of problems to begin with!! I had a load of problems with mine when i first got it but stuck with it and now things are running sweetly, and i cant stop grinning for ages after i go for a drive.
Havent seen you about in Godalming, what colour is your car?
Some guys are meeting up in Guildford on sunday afternoon at the Britannia. More than welcome to come along and say HI. :)
Adam
Hi, welcome to the forum mate :)
Last year I was only getting 0.5 bar boost and it turned out to be one or more of 3 things, all easy to check so probably will only take 5 mins..
1) There are 4 chrome bolts holding the elbow pipe from the intercooler onto the throttle body. One had come undone and another was a bit loose so air was leaking from there.
2) One of the hose clamps on the pipe from the intercooler to the elbow pipe was loose and air was leaking from there....
3) Attached to and disappearing under the pressure tank there\'s a couple of green one-way check valves, you\'ll have to unbolt the pressure tank to see them. Check they\'re connected as they help control the turbos operation.
Otherwise there\'s a great website which I can\'t remember being mentioned in this thread so far, well worth a read:
http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/TurboTroubleshooting.htm
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Alex
Ada - my car isn\'t registered yet so you wouldn\'t have seen it driving around....as for the meet, would love to come along - would i get rotten fruit thrown at me if i turn up to have a look in something other than a rex....? Cheers Alex! Thats a good site dude! Pain in the feckin arse this car, its up on ebay for sale at the mo, coz i think i can make some money on her to buy a better one! She works now, thats the main thing, and someone will get a bargain now i\'ve done all the hard work.... :-(
How do i get a picture up on this thread to show u all the car?
use the \'attach files\' option in additional options mate.
Nice...cheers dude!
Car has been sold.....skyline on the way...sorry lads! ;) :wiggle :D
