Title: Oil Changes
Post by: Andyp on July 20, 2003, 01:38:06 PM
Hiya,

Recently went for my first oil change. I have my sideskirts off at the moment for respraying *MUST LOOKING GOOD FOR BILLING* hehe so my car went up on my mechanics lifter thing, though he said when they are back on it\'s gonna be a pain in the bum to do it do to having to reinforce the skirts etc..

anyhoo... to cut a long story short, I don\'t have a pit or know anyone who does at this stage, but seeing how easy it was to do I wouldn\'t mind doing the changes myself...

Does anyone here do them their self and if so how the heck do you get under there? do ya just lean under there?

Didn\'t know if I was being generally dumb and there is an easy way, or shall I just take it to my mechanic each time? :)

Thanks

Andy

you\'ll probably pick up a trolley jack and a set of axle stands for <£50

Then you\'ll need somthing to remove the oil filter with and the correct sized spanner/socket to remove and refit the sump plug

the only reason you need to get under the car is to pull the drain plug.  unscrew it and let the oil drain out, then unscrew the filter which is located under the intake elbow on top of the engine.  i change my oil myself and have since i bought the car.  make sure you put some new oil on the new oil filter o-ring before you screw the new filter on.  and getting a new crush washer for the oil drain plug isnt a bad idea either.
