Title: about to embark
Post by: D3S on June 03, 2005, 06:46:42 PM
Im in the process of buying a FD in Japan, lucky for me my buyer in Japan is a FD nut and owns a 500bhp Rex so i know he can check things over when he gets hold of it. But to make sure everything is ok when it arrives over here  what should i check before i turn the key and drive it away from the docks?

Many thanks

firstly hi and welcome....

secondly... after it has been sat on a boat ( I assume it is coming from japan to Uk)  it would be worth checking under the bonnet for any paculiarities such as disconnected battery.

you might want to reset the ecu by dicinnecting the battery and depressing the brake pedal for 20 seconds..

check fluid levels... take some mineral oil ( i use halfrauds 10/40 mineral) just in case...

also coolant level.. again use deionised water from halfords or alike.

screen wash.. could well be grimed up due to dirt and fumes on the way over...

have ageneral look under bonnet to check if all hoses are connected as best you can

then fire it up and let it warm up a bit ( 5 - 10 mins) listen for any noises and

check idle speed....

check brakes work... they could have rusted on the way over

just general stuff like that

good luck

any idea when you take delivery?... have you got one yet or still looking.....

be careful about buy highly modded ones as theyu can be a bit of a pain sometime when in this country... if they are that good why are they being sold...

I opted for a completely stock \'93 that  had just been imported so I could check it over before I bought it... just so I could get it running nicely stock before putting any mods if I so choose.

can get some good ones if you are lucky though

have fun

Hi,

Thanks for the reply :)  So i need to take a survival kit then lol

Seems all straight forward to me, just generally check fluid levels and brakes etc. I have been doing some research into the cars engine so at least i can tell at a glance over what hoses should be where etc and check its all secure.

Well i have found one that i really like, in the process of trying to get it this week/next week. If thats the case then it will be here by the end of the July. I have gone for one with a stock engine, apart from the exhaust but is does come with aero parts, that was the general idea when searching for one. Then i will start to play with it later in the year. Kinda what to know what mazda intended the RX7 to go like before i start modding it lol.

If i get the car i will post up some pics.

Thanks for your help

hope all goes well in your search

get teh pics up when you can
