Title: exhaust
Post by: msc125 on June 03, 2005, 10:53:06 AM
i\'ve got an apexi induction kit in my \'93 fd, and am now looking to get an exhaust and power fc. however i\'m not sure what to do with the exhaust, whether to get the downpipe done first, midpipe/ cat, silencer/ muffler?

i\'m not too clued up on the exhaust system, so i was after some advice as to what is the best option in terms of cost/ power increase. i\'ll probably only get one part of the system done, but just not sure which. what have you guys done as the first exhaust mod?

any help/ advice appreciated

cheers

Once you\'ve got the apexi pfc being fitted, get the mid pipe replaced, as that contains the nasty cat thing that likes to eat your power. :(

But make sure the pfc is in and running so that you limit boost spike damage and that the fuelling is good.

will a new midpipe make any difference to the exhaust note? i\'m thinking of getting a racing beat twin muffler aswell, and i\'m a bit concerned about the noise.

will deffo make sure the pfc is fitted. i\'ll be going to rotechniks to get it all done. they will fit the exhaust and pfc + commander, and will map it to correct fuelling etc... i always thought that cars should be mapped on the rolling road, but as this is a relatively minor mod, will the map that rotechniks are going put on be ok?

The Racing Beat system is well know as a nice exhaust note. You will notice a change in note with just a mid section, but with a stock back box it wont change that much.

As for RoTechnics, I cannot comment on them, as I have only purchased a set of brake pads from them some years ago, so cannot say anything about their mapping skills.

The base map that the pfc auto-learns is known as rich in fuel, making it semi-ok for the mods you listed. But I recommend that it gets properly checked out.

glad the racing beat is supposed to sound good, as it looks exactly what i was after.

rotechniks fitted my gauges and did a decent job, although the general consensus is that they\'re a bit pricey, but they\'re the closest to me by far, so will be going to them. i\'ll chat with them to make sure they map it properly.

thanks for your help fish!

I\'ve got a racing beat twin exit back box with a silenced mid pipe - and my (naturally biased view) is that it sounds great - deep but not too loud on tick over but a really nice note when you play with the loud pedal.

If you are not wanting it too loud i would def recomend a silenced mid pipe, it seems to make quick a big difference over an unsilenced pipe noise wise whilst still giving good power gains over the cat.
